    In the case of fires occurred in a huge shop and a factory, which have a large floor area, a smoke layer with relatively thin thickness is formed by hanging smoke barriers which are installed in each constant area to prevent the spread of smoke layer. Some studies on ceiling jet temperature property which flows through the smoke layer with thick thickness accumulated in a compartment were presented. However few study on ceiling jet temperature which flows through the smoke layer with thin thickness formed by hanging smoke barriers. Using both the small-scale fire experimental results, which were conducted with varying heat release rate, depth of hanging smoke barrier and ceiling height with a horizontal ceiling, and the idea of Yamauchi's correlation, which can estimate temperature of ceiling jet in arbitrary radial position in the space where smoke layer with thick thickness is formed, a new correlation which can estimate the ceiling jet temperature which flows through the smoke layer with thin thickness is presented.

    It has been known that the road traffic noise propagation is affected by the wind. However, not so many studies deal with the effect in conjunction with microscopic wind conditions. In the present study, wind conditions around a road embankment and their influence on sound propagation were investigated by two-point simultaneous measurements of noise and wind velocity in an open suburban area. Results show that (1) the wake turbulence by the embankment affects variance in received sound pressure levels, (2) the wind velocity component parallel to the road could also be affecting sound propagation.

    The general planning for residential lighting in Japan has been carried out by selection of wattage type of a luminaire according to the size of a room, and there is no general method of examining the required light quantity for planning two or more luminaires flexibly. Therefore, we proposed the "Flux-unit method" with which designers can simply plan the residential room's lighting considering luminous flux distribution with energy consumption level. In the method, the room's total luminous flux is calculated, and then, according to the zoning of residential behaviors in the room, luminous flux is distributed within the limits of the total luminous flux considering total energy consumption. Calculation process is simplified by using reference tables. In this study, a trial design with the method was also executed.

    The renovation technique which uses Taiko-shoji and wooden pair glass sash for a window, filling an insulation material outside the mud wall layer can realize an improvement of indoor thermal environment of a traditional timber house at low installation cost. Combined use of a floor heating and an air-conditioner forms comfortable environment at low energy after the start of heating. In this paper, the simulations of the indoor thermal environment with these techniques were performed for the existing traditional timber house. In addition, annual heating and cooling loads were calculated and the results were compared with those of the traditional timber house for various insulation and heating conditions.

    We investigated a numerical method for simulating combined heat and moisture transfer processes in desiccant rotors. This method can be used to evaluate dehumidification performance of desiccant rotors. For the numerical simulation, the moisture transfer coefficient between the desiccant surface and air is required. However, the coefficient varies during the adsorption-desorption process, and it strongly affects the simulation result. Thus, we propose a method for identifying and generalizing it by a simple experiment. The numerical simulation incorporating the generalized moisture transfer coefficient was found to quite successfully predict the dehumidification performance of desiccant rotors.

    In this paper, in order to evaluate natural ventilation properties and energy saving effects of a hybrid air-conditioning system in an existing office building with flow control inlets and outlets in spring, measurements and thermal and air-flow network analyses were carried out. The following results were obtained: 1) The behavior of the hybrid air-conditioning system was shown in detail based on analyses of measured values for each floor and area within a month or a day. 2) The flow rate at all air supplies by natural ventilation was reduced to less than 1,400 m3/h by flow control function and the average of each floor's natural ventilation rate was 13,984 m3/h (twice the amount of required ventilation rate). 3) The mean calculation error for measurement values of ventilation rate was about 9.8%, and so the proposed calculation model had sufficient prediction accuracy. 4) In this analysis, cooling energy consumption was reduced about 22.3 % by the natural ventilation during this measurement. 5) Relations of natural ventilation rate to the flow control system, buoyancy caused by heat loads and energy consumption of cooling were clarified by case studies using the calculation model.

    A questionnaire was conducted on web targeting 1,000 females to clarify the influence of residential environment and satisfaction with it on occupants' stress and health. Female occupants of 76.8% reported that they have been feeling more than 1 kind of stress. Especially the stress due to their residential environment continued for long period. A covariance structural model on the relationship among residential environment, stress and health of occupants was developed. It was shown that 73% of 'health' could be explained with 5 factors, 'stress', 'satisfaction level with residential environment', 'relaxation effect', 'total hours of relaxation', 'total score of CASBEE health check list'. The model revealed that total score of CASBEE health check list had positive effect on satisfaction level with residential environment and subjective health, while negative effect on stress. The model indicated that satisfaction level with residential environment had a great impact on the levels of stress and subjective health. It was observed that total hours of relaxation had greater impact on the effects of it for working females, while total score of CASBEE health check list had on satisfaction level with residential environment for housewives.

    Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a topic of discussion in almost every architectural firm. However, the efficient utilization has not yet become clear. The key factors in the adoption are implementation of front loading and an increase in its reusability. This research considers the classes in the object-oriented databases employed in BIM and propose a new system that generates default configuration for simulations automatically during early design phases. The dissemination of the results of this research will improve simulation accuracy and increase reusability of BIM data. We expect our research to contribute to the adoption and efficient utilization of BIM technology.

    We analyze the energy consumption data of tenants in office buildings in Tokyo and show that it is able to estimate the specific energy consumption of each tenant with a high degree of accuracy by using a linear mixed model. We obtain the result that attributes which strongly influence on the basic unit are temperature, tenant type and so on. From the observation of random effects, we know that the main factor to the basic unit is the individuality of tenants. We also clarify effective power saving behaviors after the Great East Japan Earthquake by a random effect.
