    Equations for calculating the flow distributions of the basic type header systems of the counter flow arrangement and of the parallel flow one are derived respectively.
    The flow distribution factor Δσ given by
    Δσ=σdc
    introduced in those equations is a dimensionless number which controls the flow distribution of the header systems, where σd and σc are respectively the flow distribution factors of the dividing and the combining flow headers presented in 1st Report.
    The flow distributions of both arrangements header systems calculated from those equations are in good agreement with the experimental results and the counter flow arrangement has better characteristics than the parallel one.
    Many header systems are classified according to their shapes and arrangements. The formulas for the flow distributions of those classified header systems are derived based upon the analyses of the basic header systems.

    This paper describes the Systematization and Totalization of the following analysis on the marine field data (1399 samples) and Patternized Cluster Analysis with Principal Component Analysis abbreviated as PPCLUST, which could deal with an infinite number of input data having a several hundred number of patterns and their frequencies of factor scores.
    (1) Principal Component Analysis as PCA
    (2) Normal Probability Scale abbreviated as NPS
    (3) Patternized Cluster Analysis as PCLUST, which could give the factor scores for clustering in combination of factor loadings of PCA with the input scores of NPS.
    Having only an objective variable of Man-Hour per occurrence, all the input variables were scored by the first stage type of NPS, the following conclusion were obtained that some input variables, the two numbers of main engine sets (X21) and propellers (X33), kinds of ship (X34) and some group variables of man-power (X1, X2, X3) were very conspicuous among the thirty five ones.

    The Maintenance works for the total marine engine system had been discussed from the about 8300 failure reports and 55000 maintenance ones of May 1977 MESJ vol. 12, No. 5.
    This paper discussed the multivariate evaluations for the following subsystems
    (1) Main engine (2) Boiler (3) Generator engine (4) Auxiliary machinery (5) Valves & pipes
    (6) Electrical machinery (7) Deck machinery (8) Tank instrument (9) Automated machinery
    of the above marine engine systems due to the same datum submitted from 60 diesel ships and turbine ones during about 71×104 propelling hours.
    By linear regression analysis, some straight lines λi=a+bηi were obtained for the combination of mean occurring rate λi and the percentage of repair recovery on board ηi on the preventive-, precautionery-, corrective- and emergency maintenances. Maintenance mode of each subsystems could be classified into three types modes according to the regression coefficient b, which were (7) deck machinery (b>0), (1) main engine (b=0) and (5) valves & pipes (b < 0) .

    For the purpose of energy saving in diesel-powered ship, Nippon Kokan K.K. in cooperation with Taiyo Electric Mfg. Co., Ltd. and Shinkokinzoku Ind. Co., Ltd., recently developed the variable speed main engine cooling sea water pump system, which can change the pump revolutions automatically according to variations of the main engine load and the sea water temperature.
    The first unit of this system has already been installed onboard a 18, 000 D.W.T. cargo vessel owned by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. Before and after installing the first unit onboard, experimental measurements were made on this system to investigate its principal characteristics and energy saving capability.
    In this paper is introduced an outline of the variable speed cooling sea water pump system and also described the results of experiments carried out.

    Large amount of wasted heat from a marine diesel engine has potentially enough capability for producing a great deal of chilled water (5-10°C), if properly adapted to the heat source for absorption chilling units. From this points of view, some feasible systems and useful applications on board for produced chilled water are investigated. As the results of this feasibility study, the following points are cleared.
    1) The application of the proposed system to car-ferry air-conditioning has a great possibility in energy saving.
    2) For a tanker, crude oil gas cooling on deck by chilled water might bring some reduction in vapour loss and improvement in safety keeping.
    3) Pre-cooling of super charged inlet air by chilled water has the possibility for a high powered and small sized main engine.
    4) As usable wasted heat, engine cooling water has a great potentiality for marine absorption units.
