The main purpose of this study are to estabulished a method of in situ particle size and velocity measurements by Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer and to observe the behaviour of the collided spray flow on the flat plate. The growh of the spray flow after the collision was photographed. The nozzle used is a twin fluid atomizer of an internal mixing type. The spray flow from the atomizer port is low Reynolds number conditions and is smooth.
The main parameters in experiments are the ignition pressure and the colliding angle (β: deg.) .
The main results obtained were as follows.
(1) The measuring technique of particle diameter was established by the PDPA. Accuracy better than 2% was obtained as the accuracy of the measurment was verified by the standard particles, even a very small particle diameter could be detected by sensitive device.
(2) The larger particles injected from the nozzle were diffused along the streamline, the larger particles were distributed on the outside and the smaller particles were come together on the central part at the down stream area.
(3) The pattern of spray flow after the collison slides parallel down a smooth surface with a colliding angle. The larger colliding angle is, the particlle size at the down stream zone is smaller.
