We investigated the antimicrobial susceptibility of Prevotella intermedia and the Streptococcus anginosus group isolated in Nippon Dental University Niigata Hospital from 2002 to 2011. P. intermedia were isolated from 9 strains in 78 closed abscesses and 91 strains in 431 open abscesses of odontogenic infections. The S. anginosus group was isolated from 39 strains and 122 strains, respectively. MIC50 of ampicillin (ABPC) against P. intermedia were > 8μg/mL in closed abscesses and > 1μg/mL in open abscesses. MIC90 of clindamycin (CLDM) were ≤ 0.12μg/mL in closed abscesses and > 4μg/mL in open abscesses. Benzylpenicillin (PCG) showed good antimicrobial activity against the S. anginosus group. Susceptibility rates of CLDM against the S. anginosus group were about 90%. Antimicrobial use density (AUD) of penicillins decreased from 2002-2006 to 2007-2011. Susceptibility rates of ABPC against P. intermedia were 36% on inpatients. Susceptibility rates of CLDM were 100% in 2002-2006 and 72.7% in 2007-2011 on inpatients. Susceptibility rates of PCG and CLDM against the S. anginosus group were stationary on inpatients.
We need to keep observing antimicrobial susceptibility of P. intermedia and the S. anginosus group.

It is well known that sulpiride is a selective dopamine D-2 antagonist with antipsychotic and antidepressant activity, and its therapeutic uses include the treatment of schizophrenia, neurosis, depression, duodenal ulcers and inadequate lactation. We have been reported two patients with chronic tongue ulceration who were treated successfully ulceration itself using sulpiride which expected relief of chronic tongue pain.
In this paper, clinical diagnosis of Candida-associated tongue ulcer was made in both patients. Anti-fungal treatments, however, were ineffective and the tongue pain became more severe. Furthermore, the pain could not be relieved by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Thus, we prescribed sulpiride (150mg/day) to reduce psychogenic pain at least. A consequent improvement in both pain severity and ulceration were observed 3 weeks after sulpiride administration in both patients.
