The isomerization of terpinolene oxide (T-1) in the presence of CuSO
4 and supported CuSO
4 catalysts was studied. On using CuSO
4 calcinated at 350°C as the catalyst, limonene-4-ol (T-4) was obtained as the main product. On the other hand, with CuSO
4/bentonite as the catalyst, karahanaenone [(T-2), 2, 2, 5-trimethy1-4-cyclohepten-1-one] was obtained with high selectivity.
1, 3-Dioxolane derivatives was obtained with high selectivity by reaction of (T-1) with acetone catalyzed by CuSO
4.
The CuSO
4/SiO
2-Al
2O
3 catalyst could be effectively used to isomerize α-pinene 2, 3-oxide (P-1) and
d-limonene 1, 2-oxide (L-1).
