Coleopterous species that have been recorded from nests of Japanese termites, namely Reticulitermes speratus, Coptotermes formosanus, were reviewed. Among these are seven staphylinid and one tenebrionid itophiles, and four termitariophilous species (termite nest eaters) of four families (Ceratocanthidae, Scarabaeidae, Curculionidae and Rhynchophoridae). Systematic position of Trichopseniini (Staphylinidae), ecological implication of termitariophiles in general, and a missing unidentified staphylinid from a nest of C. formosanus in Kyushu, are also discussed. Some species with either possible myrmecophily or termitophily, some species found in termites' nests with unknown nature, and some termitophilous species or groups of possible and yet unknown occurrence in Japan were also mentioned.
