Generally speaking, the coated electrode for mild steel divides into two kinds:-of gas shield and slag shield. A Part of the carbonate decomposes into metallic oxide and CO
2-gas by dint of the heat of high temperature clue to electric arc of welding, when the carbonate is used as coating material. The author investigated how the metallic oxide in them should act on as slag shield and also in the case of CO
2-gas, how to act as gas shield.
In this paper, the general properties of all deposited metal are investigated, as follows:- (1) The inc-reasing rate of Nitrogen in deposited metal depends upon the melting point of the metallic elements composing the carbonate; the higher the melting point is, the more the rate of Nitrogen increases, betow the melting point of Fe. (2) The carbonate of Na and Sr cause a few blow holes and give the good specific gravity of deposited metal. (3) The gaseous and volatile matter of coating material causing by dint of arc welding shows good effect on the amount of the blow holes in deposited metal. (4) The percentage of blow holes in deposited metal has the defenite relation between the effects of slag shield and gas shield on a certain current. (5) Hardness of the deposited metal is high when the weight of the slag for deposited metal is large. (6) The coated carbonates are consumed 20-25% for slag, and about 3% for deposit. (7) In case of using the carbonates of Ca, Sr, Ba, Mn and Mg, slag is porous and not in case of Li and Na, and this fact is confirmed to the experimental value. (8) The quantity of deposited metal decreases in proportion to a high of current which is used and on the other hand the gasifying and spattering quantity increase, but the slag has the defenite quantity. (9) Judging from the effect of shielding, the proper current is 120 ampere.
