We have evaluated a Green's function of a minimally coupled scalar field on a wormhole background. The Green's function is written in terms of the eigenfunctions and eigenvalues of the Laplacian operator with a spherical symmetry, thus the problem being reduced to a one-dimensional potential barrier problem in quantum mechanics, and is finally solved by a numerical calculation. We have shown that the asymptotic form of the Green's function connected by a wormhole has the τ-dependence 〜 1/|τ|^2|τ'|^2. This τ-dependence is interpreted as an appearance of a pair of local operators in the wormhole ends, 〜ψ(p(x_0)ψ(x'_0). The procedure we used in this paper may be extended to calculate a Green's function of a field with higher spin, in which case the angular variables are separated with appropriate (spinor, vector, tensor, ・ ・ ・) harmonics and the eigenvalue equation is reduced to one-dimensional potential barrier problem just as the calculation of the scalar Green's function. Averaging over the relative angles between the two asymptotic regions is rather complicated, however.

The strangeness-changing reactions for producing p-shell Λ hypernuclei are studied extensively and systematically in the framework of DWIA and in the configuration-mixed shell model wavefunctions. Calculated excitation functions and the angular distributions are compared with the existing data. If the spin-flip interaction as well as the spin-nonflip one are taken into account in the transition hamiltonian, large hypernuclear-spin polarizations are predicted, for example for ^12_ΛC, in the (π^+,K^+) reaction at p_<π+> = 1040 MeV/c, which would be useful for coming studies of the hypernuclear weak decay.

Starting from the free ΛN interaction, we calculate the Λ-nucleus optical potential microscopically. Our procedure consists in two steps. Firstly, A complex effective ΛN interaction is determined based on the Brueckner theory. This explains the bulk property of the nucleus. Secondly, with the effective interaction, the optical potential is calculated in the framework of the continuum RPA. It explains the effect of the finiteness of the nucleus.

Double-differential cross section for in-flight ^<208>Pb(K^-, π^+) reaction is investigated theoretically in the framework of distorted wave impulse approximation (DWIA) by using Green's function method. The difference in the reaction cross sections is clearly seen between a phenomenological nucleus-Σ potential which reproduces Σ^- atom data and a folding potential with a repulsive bump near the nuclear surface which is constructed from realistic ΣN interaction.

The in-flight (K^-,π^-), (K^-,π^-) and (K^-,π^+) reactions on a ^4He target at p_K=400- 800MeV/c are investigated within the DWIA framework by using the Green function method to establish a more quantitative understanding of the structure of ^4_ΣHe bound state and to clarify the Σ-formation mechanism. The Σ-formation spectra are predicted theoretically on the basis of realistic ΣN interaction with an imaginary part describing as the ΣN→ΛN conversion. It is found that the in-flight ^4He(K^-,π^-) spectrum around 450MeV/c is the best way at present to get definitive information on the nucleus-Σ potential. The systematic study of the reactions on the ^4He target is important to elucidate the Σ-formation mechanism.
