Following the ADM canonical formalism, we analyzed the (2+1)-dimensional gravity with the cosmological constant, where the 2-dimensional space is a compact Riemannian manifold M without a boundary. York's time slice γ=K=constant on the 2-dimensional spatial manifold M was adopted. We see that in this time slice solving the Hamiltonian and momentum constraints is equivalent to considering a conformally equivalent class of superspace. Thus we find that the global dynamical mode is Teichmuller deformation of M and it is directly related to the topology of space. Then using some mathematical facts on the Teichmuller space of a closed Riemannian manifold, we have reduced the classical dynamics of gravity to that of a poin-particle theory and explicitly followed the time evolution equations in the case-M is topologically a torus. Our main findings concerning the Teichmuller deformation are the two facts. For torus, we have explicitly shown that (1) the trajectory of the Teichmuller parameters is a geodesic of the Teichmuller space even in the presence of the cosmological constant (2) the cosmological constant causes a convergence effect of the geodesic motion. That is, the Teichmuller deformation stops asymptotically in time. However, we do not know yet at present how to describe higher genus cases and if there are any possibility of spatial topology change, a more challenging problem.

Polyakov's 2 dim. quantum gravity is analysed in the perturvative approach. The 2 dim. general invariance of the effective action is preserved using the background-field method. Renormalization of the gravitational coupling and redefinition of the graviton field are performed explicitly at the 1-loop order. Some interesting aspects (renormalizability, gauge condition, renormalizaton and β-function of the gravitational coupling, redfinition of the graviton field) are found.

Adopting York's gauge, we formulate quantum geometrodynamics so that it contains only a single time-like variable corresponding to the total volume of the universe. In this gauge, the conformal factor which does not change the volume becomes non-dynamical and is eliminated from the action by solving the field equation before quantization.

It is shown that application of the thermo field dynamics to the thermal Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (THFB) approximation leads to the extended form of the Bloch-Messiah theorem for the finite temperature formalism. The generalized Bogoliubov transformation is brought to the canonical form on the enlarged operator space including tilded operators, and newly defined single-particle density matrix and pair tensor take into account the thermal fluctuation effect of Fermion number.

The nuclear wobbling motion associated with the static triaxial deformation are investigated from a microscopic viewpoint. A relationship between the microscopic and macroscopic models is clarified. Examples of calculations indicate quite unique properties of the wobbling motion, which are in contrast to the predictions of macroscopic ansatz either of rigid-body or of irrotaional-flow.
