In this talk I discuss the analytic structure of the fermion propagator, within the context of the Dyson-Schwinger equation. I show that the standard approximations(the ladder approximation and beyond) lead to complex singularities of the fermion propagator, instead of the expected mass singularities in the time-like region. This might be connected with confinement(in QCD), but in four-dimensional QED my conclusion is that this an artifact of the approximation. However, sofar there is no approximation scheme known in which these singularities are located in the time-like region.

We calculate the-low-energy parameter S in QCD, which is also known as L_<10>, and the pion decay constant f_π using inhomogeneous Bethe-Salpeter equation in improved ladder approximation. To extract these quantities we calculate the "V-A" two-point function, Π_<VV>(q^2)-Π_<AA>(q^2), in space-like region. We obtain S = 0.43 〜 0.48, which is about 30% larger than the experimental value. The calculated f_π is well consistent with the result by solving the homogeneous Bethe-Salpeter equation for pion. We also evaluate S parameter in SU(3) gauge theory with N_D doublets of fermions in connection with walking technicolor model, and find that the value of S/N_D hardly depends on N_D.

We investigate the phase structure of the gauged Yukawa model possessing a global SU(2)_L × SU(2)_R symmetry and an unbroken(vector-like) gauge symmetry based on the ladder Schwinger-Dyson equation. We show that even when we tune the squared mass of the scalar boson in the Lagrangian to be positive, there occurs the dynamical chiral symmetry breaking due to fermion pair condensate(VEV of the composite scalar) triggered by the strong Yukawa coupling larger than a certain critical value. We find a "nontrivial ultraviolet fixed line" and "renormalized trajectories" in the three-dimensional coupling space of the Yukawa coupling, the gauge coupling and the "hopping parameter" of the elementary scalar field. Presence of the gauge coupling is crucial to existence of the fixed line.

We investigate (2+ε)-dimensional quantum gravity. We take care of the oversubtraction problem in the conformal mode dynamics. As its applications to two-dimensional quantum gravity, we calculate the scaling dimensions of manifestly generally covariant operators and study scaling properties of R^2 gravity. Also we comment on a recent progress in two-loop renormalization of (2+ε)-dimensional quantum gravity.

We discuss the effects of Majorana neutrino resonant spin-flavor precession on models for the heavy element nucleosynthesis and the explosion dynamics of Type II supernovae. We point out that for plausible ranges of neutrino magnetic moments and proto-neutron star magnetic fields spin-flavor conversion of ν_γ( or ν_μ) with a cosmologically significant mass(1-100 eV) into a light ν^^-_e could lead to enhanced neutron excess in neutrino-heated supernova ejecta. This may be beneficial for models of γ-process nucleosynthesis associated with Type II supernovae. Spin-flavor conversion of neutrinos with these masses at earlier epoch lead to an increased shock reheating rate and, concomitantly, a larger supernova explosion energy.
