In resent Japanese elemental and lower secondary education, opportunity of experimental work for students has been limited, and it has made difficult to obtain fundamental knowledge in natural sciences. This recent situation causes needs to provide special and general science courses through laboratory work in the liberal arts education in science and engineering faculties of universities and colleges. In this paper, the author tries to edit new attempts of development of “Laboratory Study Course for Natural Science Fundamentals” . The concept of natural science fundamentals, and the reason for the need, the contents and the aims of the laboratory study course are discussed in this article.

Embedded systems are applied in various products and the demand for them is very high;however, there is a very serious shortage of embedded system engineers in Japan. The promotion of human resource development is pressing need in the embedded system engineering. We have developed an e-learning system for embedded system engineering education and designed a curriculum based on this e-learning system. This educational system has some effective materials for promoting self-learning at home, including a remote practice system and an online hardware description language (HDL) design check system. We conducted some training courses using this educational system and evaluated the results.

The outline of execution and the evaluation of the conclusion type Monodzukuri education program using the embedded technology are described in this paper. The Monodzukuri enterprises such as the auto sector, telecommunication, and the consumer electronic manufacturing have a lot of demand for the engineer who acquired the embedded technology now. Moreover, the Monodzukuri experience is necessary for practicing engineer training. Then, the Monodzukuri education program of a free conception that applied the micro-controller embedded technology was executed, and the educative effect to which student′s Monodzukuri desire improved was obtained.

To train the students desiring to learn nuclear engineering at Hachinohe National College of Technology with four basic departments : mechanical, electrical, chemical and civil engineering, we plan to extend “Mountain Range Type of Education” system which is the characteristic of our school to the nuclear energy field. This project is the activity to educate step-by-step according to the school age, consisting of the program for the lower grades which enlightens the energy and the nuclear power and the program for the higher grades to take the nuclear engineering subjects. The development of the education program was smoothly accomplished in relation to the drastic revision of the former curriculum. As a result, it was confirmed that the introduced nuclear-related subjects functioned in the revised “Mountain Range Type of Education” with the educational effects. And, the interests of the students could be drawn out through whole project.

The creative program for chemical experiments in high school has been developed for five years by cooperation between Faculty of Engineering, University of Miyazaki and Miyakonojo Izumigaoka Senior High School through the science partnership program (SPP) planed by the Ministry of Education and Science. Practical experiments of the formation of organic gel and then evaluation of its properties were mainly selected for the program. Although the students learned the gel formation for the first time in this program, they felt great interest in exciting behavior of the gel. The useful educational materials to the high school students was established in the SPP.

We developed “Instruction Skills on the Job” introducing a new concept “mutual communication” , by improving the original training “Instruction Skills for Instructors” . The new concept aims to enhance practical skills and coaching skills for subordinates at workplace as well as instruction skills as a training instructor. In the new training, we grasp weak points and characteristics of each trainee, and give advice to solve the individual issues to realize the concept. Follow-up survey after the training proved that trainees continuously practice the instruction skills from the viewpoint of “mutual communication” on their workplace.

In this paper, a discussion and practice on i nformation security education at a short-term educational institute such as junior college was made. A model course structure has been proposed based on a comprehensive investigation and four year educational practices at our college. According to the proposed course structure, in order to improve the learner′s comprehension of some parts of the course contents which are considered to be difficult by most of the learners, some Web based e-Learning materials have been developed and utilized in our classes. We also give an analysis on the effect of using the proposed course structure based on the students′ lecture assessment.

The purpose of this paper is to develop a memory-based prediction system of learners′ score in the assembly process of a manufacturing class, and to evaluate the precision. Thinking scale and an achievement test in the assembly were conducted on 274 junior high school students, who were divided into two groups : learning data (n = 214) and inspection data (n = 60) . We designed the memory-based prediction system, which accumulated learning data. The result of the precision evaluation with inspection data showed that the correlation between measured and predicted scores was 0.51 and the absolute value of errors was under 0.1 in 81.7% of the total predicted scores.

A learn-by-doing engineering career education program adopted by MEXT of Japanese Government has been conducted for three years with the assistance of named “A network of 100 wise men” , which is a novel supporting organization for the students and faculties of Niigata University. The network is composed by the company engineers or social technicians who have rich experiences in the careers of the actual R&D processes. We have confirmed that the practical experiences they possessed on the course of their R&D processed are quite effective for the students to give them the practical engineering education.

This paper describes the perception about the present state of structural mechanics education and a trial to improve the motivation for learning of students learning in the civil and environmental engineering department, Kinki University. The resultant score of structural mechanics is examined with various factors such as the type of entrance examination, the percentage of attendance and the learning time, etc. Based on the information obtained by questionnaires for a job, it is found that the civil service is the most popular among every job for students learning in our department. We propose the new questionnaire survey by using the national service personnel examination for second-class civil to improve the effectiveness of the civil engineering education. It seems that this trial might be one of the useful techniques to improve the motivation for learning of students in the civil engineering.
