This study aims to introduce the trial curriculum of the team work education based on Jung′s psychological type, designed for the first-year undergraduate students, and to reveal its effect on facilitating complementary cooperation. Data on each team were collected by implementing team exercises, and analyzed by analysis methods such as Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). As a result, this curriculum was effective on encouraging to play leadership-role/followership-role, and on facilitating team performance.

There are nine departments at College of Industrial Technology Nihon University, and we have adopted special selection programs common to all departments. Through selective system, these classes are made from different departments and classes are carried out together. Students from different disciplines such as machinery, electricity, architecture, chemistry, information, management etc. do group work together. Through the programs, students learn to accept diverse ideas and opinions. The programs require 2 or 3 years to complete. Students are selected by placement test, composition, interview etc. at the time of admission. While it is important to provide support systems for students with poor academic performance in current engineering education, it is also necessary to establish an educational system for talented students. This paper introduces the contents as an example of a special program for students with excellent grades in engineering education. As a result, we show the possible educational effects to be obtained through this educational system.

The real flight education program is a selective education for undergraduate students who aim to take lead roles in aircraft technology or industry. After taking some homework and classroom lectures, selected students experienced four basic and characteristic motions of aircraft on an actual airplane in 2017. In a view of attended students′ opinion, this paper proposes an improved education program employing some data logging systems for the real flight in 2018. As an easier and less expensive method to take flight data, we developed a data logging system combining a single board computer and sensor board. In addition, a voice-oriented communication system was constructed. We also briefly report the results of a trial implementation of the data logging by smartphones.

The existence of the Web became commonplace and everyone can send out information. Therefore, the demand for design learning about Web pages is increasing. Using conventional color learning, it is difficult to try various color schemes. Using the conventional CSS learning system, learners could not learn programs thinking their codes. In order to solve the conventional problem, we made intuitive color selection and coloring possible in color learning of this system. Also, in CSS learning, we created a mechanism for learners to choose the correct code from among the choices and program it so that learners can learn programs thinking their codes. As a result of the evaluation experiments, it was appreciated in the comprehensibility of the operation method in color learning and the effectiveness of learning in CSS learning.

In this study, we developed a system based on a problem-solving process model of the Japanese Patent Act to support knowledge acquisition among engineering students, who are better at interpreting the use of logical formulas and logic circuits than they are at reading legal texts. The knowledge acquisition support system helped students construct legal articles by themselves by using logical formulas and logic circuits. We found that this system was rated favorably by some students and that it was useful for their knowledge acquisition. Meanwhile, it is necessary to improve the system for those students who did not rate it favorably and to devise a support system for term exams. We speculate that such improvements will increase usage of the system, which in turn will lead to further support for knowledge acquisition.

We implemented and improved the learning in the first year of mathematics education of the university by introducing exercise sheet, retest by point complementation method, and cloud content such as commentary lecture video and so on. As a result, it was suggested that students whose consciousness conversion to learning was done and who gained self-affirmation in the process of learning proactively advanced learning after that.

Reflection is an effective learning activity in subjective learning. However, when a self-evaluation rubric is used as a means for reflection, learners are burdened with reading sentences. In this research, by developing a system for coloring descriptive rubric words, we aimed to improve the evaluation efficiency by making it easier to compare the phrases. As a result of the introduction into classes of basic information subjects, the response time was reduced by approximately 14.7% by using the self-evaluation rubric system using coloring, and the evaluation efficiency was improved.

To provide opportunities to learn about the structural and functional aspects of civil engineering structures, the “Infrastructure Museum” has been developed by the Center for Infrastructure Asset Management Technology and Research (CIAM) in Gifu University. The “Infrastructure Museum” consists of four large scale models. The models can be utilized for maintenance engineer education and also extend for usage of verification of bridge inspection technologies such as non-destructive testing and newly developing robotic technologies. This paper presents the concepts and expected usage of the “Steel Bridge Model” which constructed as one of the large-scale models of the museum.

Conventional environmental education is mainly of nature experience type, and many require time and place. A rocket stove is an efficient and hot burning portable stove using wood fuel. Especially since the Great East Japan Earthquake, there are many reports made as part of environmental activities. However, rocket stoves are not well known generally in Japan. In this study, we made a small rocket stove as a teaching material for environmental education. Furthermore, environmental education using small rocket stove was conducted at elementary and junior high schools and its educational effect was investigated. As a result, in environmental education, not only promotion of the interests of the environment and science but also the promotion of interest in disaster prevention was great effect. Small rocket stove had a small entrance and could not supply air, making stable combustion difficult. However, by improving the combustion section and reviewing the fuel, stable combustion became possible.

PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) is widely used for controlling a production facility in order to realize a predetermined operation by integrating many detecting devices and driving devices. The basic function of the PLC is to program a causal relationship between input and output in a relay circuit form called a sequence diagram and to execute this function. It is known that problems of individual differences and malfunctions tend to occur during design of relay circuits, and we have devised ways to solve this problem for years. In this paper, we introduce an education program to construct PLC circuits of complicated operation using “Trigger/Action chart” , “Step-connected sequential circuit” and “Control block diagram” implemented at our training institute.

There are two well-known evaluation methods of key competencies for engineering students. One is the GRIT test, which is a subjective evaluation, the other is the PROG competency test, which is an objective evaluation. In order to evaluate the relationship between a score on the GRIT scale and a score in each category of the PROG competency test, this paper analyzes the relationship between the two methods, and examines whether the GRIT scale is useful to evaluate key competencies. We conclude that the correlation coefficient between “tenacity” in the GRIT scores and the total score of the PROG competency test tends to be high.

This paper proposes a new cooperative association between special needs schools, technical high schools, and institutes of technology through the development of an application. The authors organized various classes over a one-year period in upper secondary schools and universities to enable high school students and undergraduates to collaborate toward a shared goal. The analysis of reports written by participating students revealed the educational effectiveness of the program in learning pertaining to realistic problem solving. With an eye to the future, tasks such as effective schedule coordination among the three parties, the development of a travel budget for students, and better technical assistance from undergraduates to high school students need to be undertaken and the issues therein must be addressed.
