Recently, human skills have a renewable appreciation in the development of hardware, software, mentalware, and craftman's ability in U.S., Europe and Japan. This paper deals firstly with the contents of skill that we have to keep and educate, considering the value of skill, relationship between technology and skill, and so on. Then, present problems and future direction on the role of skill are discussed based on the evaluation by managers in industries and professors in universities. Lastly, some typical methodologies and equip-ments that are now being developed at our laboratory are shortly described from the viewpoint of promoting the effective education in near future.

The founder of Matsushita Electric thought that the basis of management lies in human development and set a motto "people before products." We, at Matsushita, have been keeping this philosophy and developing our human resources. To encourage human development overseas, Matsushita has eight training facilities for local employees including the Overseas Training Center (OTC) in Japan. They are fulfilling their share of assignment and are providing training courses for local employees. Thus, Matsushita is promoting Group and Global Management in a human development point of view. However, there are still problems to be solved or items to be considered. They are the language, the promotion of local employees to executives, and the training system for local engineers to acquire advanced technologies. We are trying to solve these problems, and then, will go into global business and contribute to the societies.

I experienced a lecturer at three universities including Tokyo University for senior students who majors in material science engineering or metal engineering in 1995. The topic of my lecture is Works of materials engineers in product development for late of 1990s. What I wanted to stress mostly in the lecture was that an R&D attitute taking into consideration of useris view point would be crucial for engineers who want to develop new materials supporting new products for late of 1990s. A stress point for materials development in 1990s is different from that in 1980s. In my presentation of the main topic, I gave information on how new materials would be applied for commercial products through a variety of process stages. With concrete case studies, I claimed that the following items would be required to develop materials applications, which include selection of a target product and mechanism, achievement of high performance and low cost to meet users specifications, and solutions for tough competition of new materials and mechanism by subsequent emerging competitors. To make the students to give an experience of engineers, I demonstrated as many application products or their photos as possible.

Personal computers have been come into wide use. Utilization of them by application programs are increased instead of using by original programs made by users. According to the easy utilization of networks, we can use e-mail and WWW easily. We don't need an especially skilled technique to use computers. Then the education for computers in universities will be changed to correspond to the changing computers.
In this paper, the utilization of original programs by editor and problems in computer education will be described.
