This paper shows an essential part of the process of recent revision of the JSEE’ s code of ethics, its old code and the newly revised one, the reasons for the revision, and what problems probably remain. Code of ethics should be public-minded and at the same time helpful to its membership. Therefore the code is to be reviewed and if necessary revised by the members themselves. As a result of the recent revision, the new ethical code of JSEE came to tell its members not to commit an injustice, not to let them do wrong and not to turn a blind eye to dishonest acts. Though this may seem a hurdle too high or a stumbling block to some, several large engineering societies in the U.S. have codified this kind of requirement. But in order for a society to be helpful enough to its members, it should provide them with just enough admonition as well as good enough mediation.

A new evaluation methodology of 3D-CAD practice was introduced on mechanical design education in a College of Technology. The main results obtained are as follows : (1) We could reduce the effort of marking of works to be submitted, without decrease of the evaluation quality. (2) If we supply the parts which cannot be edited, students who are behind the schedule can practice the assembly in 3D-CAD. (3) The evaluation method prevents a plagiarism of another person’ s data. Therefore we could propose a high efficient and high quality evaluation methodology by usage of 3D-CAD.

In electronic devices and communications equipment manufacturers, training of human resources to learn the high frequency technology which is the core technology has become an important issue. For this, intended for young engineers to engage in or in the near future to engage in high-frequency circuit design and measurement, we have developed a technology seminar course. In this paper, we introduce features and an overview of the seminar course and developed teaching materials. And having been conducted over the course for decade, it was found that attendance engineers’ satisfaction is high by questionnaire. In addition, we also found that there is a need for higher level technical seminars in this field.

Although it is often criticized that Japanese engineering education in graduate school has many problems, it is highly regarded as one of the success model creating the human recourses who contribute to economic growth of the country in the field of international cooperation. However the uniqueness of this model has not been discussed sufficiently, hence the author attempts to find this uniqueness by conducting semi-structured interview to ten academic staff having experience in Japanese graduate school and analyzing the data by qualitative data analysis method. In the result, the author found “Learning through research in the laboratory as a community” as a uniqueness of the model and discussed it from view point of practice of community.

This article reports about the agriculture internship implemented in Muroran Institute of Technology and the marked educational effects. In this program, students stay 10 days with host family farmers and experience farm works. The works in the vegetable farms, dairy farms and race horse farms include harvest vegetables, sorting and cleaning crops, caring cows and horses, feeding and milking, cleaning cowsheds and stables, etc. All these works are from early morning till night and need both muscles and skills, quite different from classroom studies. Students’ reports show that they enjoy and get strong impression and satisfaction by the new experiences surrounded by lots of nature, farm products and animals. They also learn meaning of working, relation of their daily life and society, importance of communication and many others. Questionnaire survey to past students revealed that they learned the importance of autonomy and positiveness, cooperativeness, sense of responsibility and broad mindedness from the agriculture internship, and these characters are very significant in the course studies after that, as well as in the vocational life in the industries after the graduation. The farmers also enjoy accepting students with broadening understanding on their jobs, and also absorbing young energy of the students.

This paper describes an educational system which is based on the industry-university cooperation at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Ibaraki University. Some courses with the practical application, such as Manufacturing Engineering Practices or Experiments in Mechanical Engineering, are redesigned with the support of the engineers in industrial circles. By introducing the improved courses, students are supposed to learn what is going on in the actual manufacturing industries and are expected to be highly motivated for studying mechanical engineering. The educational system in the cooperation with the engineers produces synergetic effect on the education of the students. After implementation of this new educational system, we have carried out several questionnaire surveys of the industry-university cooperation system for our students. The students’ responses to the educational system are on the whole positive. We confirm that it is crucially important to meet the social needs and that the industry-university cooperation is very effective to stimulate the students’ learning motivation.

In order to discuss our educational program, we did two questionnaire researches. One is to ask demands of industrial corporations which employ our graduates, and another is to ask demands of new students of our department. By comparing results of these two questionnaires, many facts about the demand for our educational program are found. These facts are not consistent with our current program, and also from our common sense. In this paper, it is explained that how different it is, and the policy how we consider when we make the new educational program.

For over 4000 years Materials has been important to mankind. Today Materials links Physics, Chemistry, Geo and Bio sciences, and Environmental science and engineering. This is why Materials can help solve the big problems of the future. It is important to get across to students both the conventional knowledge of Materials and its role in modern engineering practice. Some of the ways of doing this education are described in this paper. Understanding material properties based on the underlying physics is brought out using charts created in CES EduPack software. New developments dealing with materials and environment provide the eco-audit and eco-informed materials selection functions to understand problems of environmental impact. The motive here is to supplement the more traditional materials teaching approach by the innovative method which can scan broadly the materials world.

The authors have developed a teaching material named “Introduction to Business Management System to learn with the quiz” for understanding lectures more effectively in engineering courses of Polytechnic College. So far, in engineering courses there was no theme such as way of business, or costing, or way of commerce. Therefore, we have added this material to the course of “Development Problem Training” to perform the development from product planning to manufacturing. And, we have decided to use this teaching material prior to the training. In this paper, as an example we introduce the teaching material related to the costing used in the training, and discuss the results of a questionnaire survey.

College of Systems Engineering and Science, Shibaura Institute of Technology was founded in 1991. Each department in the college has delivered specific major education and shared common interdisciplinary education of systems engineering. The knowledge and skills in systems engineering including project management are necessary for engineers who solve technical as well as social and interdisciplinary problems. We define our interdisciplinary education by emphasizing systems approach with interdisciplinary communication and teamwork skill for solving real problems in society. The main part of interdisciplinary education consists of three lectures and three Project-Based Learning (PBL) for mixed students of five departments. In this paper, learning outcomes design, course design, execution, and assessment are described.

This paper presents new module-style power system training device. Power system engineers are demanding for electric utilities, railway companies, facility engineering companies, and power apparatus management sections in factories. However, electrical engineer lacks of experimental-based education due to high-cost of experiment device. This paper provides idea for improvement of this situation by prepared module-style power experiment device. It is easy to conduct electrical experiments and understand that theory by using this device. Furthermore, we can take advantage of the experiment, such as smart grid and micro-grid.
