While the study of International Relations primarily deals with political and economical problems among industrialized nations, the new International Development teaches know-how on the way to promote social/economic development of developing nations, based on friendly relationships between developed and developing countries. Because the development demands knowledge and experience on engineering and technology, we intend to teach students a broad subject of techno-literacy, namely, design, planning, engineering concept, natural resources, environmental protection, disaster prevention, etc., in addition to those traditionally taught, such as international politics, economics, international law, history, social science, communications, etc.
Our prime objective is to train and educate students in the broad interdisciplinary subjects, so that they would be able to take careers on international development. However, students are expected to become important staff members in the future of both manufacturing and non-manufacturing industries worldwide.
