The purpose of this paper is to evaluate allocation of evacuation facilities and soft measures to minimize the damage from inland water flooding in Gangnam ward of Seoul city, using evacuation simulation. Simulation was constructed by Multi-Agent-System. The soft measures are measure of disaster weaks, improvement of evacuation start time, and addition of a temporary evacuation facility and divided into 13 combinations. The soft measures were evaluated with time variation of evacuation rate. As a result of simulation, we understood that improvement of evacuation start time, and addition of the temporary evacuation facility were effective.

In this paper we are going to evaluate historic preservation of Harbin Zhongyang street, a historic main street formed in the beginning of 1900s, and find the principles we should take for the next step. Harbin Zhongyang street has been conserved and improved since 1997. We acquired old photos of the street and drew the facades of the buildings of the day and compared the present facades. As the result we found that even the preserved buildings have been changed in many points, inappropriate repairs have done and new developments have not inherited the patterns or characters of historic buildings.

This paper is about a on-line design tool for learning townscape design in Japanese traditional townhouse area “Machiya”. The townscape conservation of Machiya is implemented in Kanazawa city and many owners of these Machiya are concerned with how to keep these traditional houses in a good condition. For improvement of Machiya conservation activities in local city, we develop a on-line design tool for representing alternatives of townscape design which supports residents for learning about the townscape design of Machiya through the Internet.

The purpose of this paper is to verify the conformity of plan of 3DK type and lifestyle of aged households. There are unconformity two-person household's lifestyles that have a meal with DK and use the south side room as bed room, as the result the north side 2 rooms becomes remainder, or residents have a meal in the south side tatami-room and the room is used as bedroom too. These lifestyles occupy 40% in the couple and 20% in the one parent and child. In the single, the lifestyle having meal in the south side room occupies 40%.

In this research, we investigated the resident’s consideration concerning housing performance of rented housing in cold region. As a result, it was clarified that the resident’s satisfaction and moving intention are influenced by the performance, and the intention is expected to be restrained by improving the performance. However, there is a problem with a little information obtained when a rented housing is chosen. It is difficult that a borrower chooses the housing finishes being satisfactory. It is clarified the most borrowers have various dissatisfaction after move in, and many of these dissatisfaction is dissatisfied of the regionality.

Factors that were supposed to influence the model evaluating natural surveillance, 1) the transparency ratio of fences, 2) the types of fence frame, 3) the distance to the target, and 4) the angle toward fences, were verified by the trials through the full-size model. As the result, 3 consequences are found; 1) the larger the distance becomes and the smaller the transparency rate becomes, the worse the visibility becomes, 2) there are some points that the visibility does not become better even if the conditions get better, and 3) the visibility cannot be expected when the transparency ratio and the distance meet certain conditions.

The objective of this study is to disclose the structure of Construction Engineering Organization (CEO) and applying system of National Building Codes (NBC) in Iran. The intension of this paper is to understand the effect of CEO in applying system of NBC. The analysis consists of three chapters as follows: Chapter 2 explicates the structure of CEO and its relationship with government. Chapter 3 explicates the organizations that take part of NBC applying system. Chapter 4 explicates the building confirmation system of the NBC.

The first barn with gambrel roof in the First Farm of Hokkaido University was built on the 31 March, 1919. The plans with gambrel roof and official documents have been found in the Facility Department of Hokkaido University. The Plans drawn by Shaku, the system of measuring length, adopt the King System of Ventilation and the balloon frame construction. The book written by Kenzo IGUCHI, a professor of the Faculty of Agriculture, that introduced this barn was used as the textbook at the Faculty of Agriculture, Hokkaido University.

Jiyugakuen Myonichikan was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and his disciple Arata Endo. The Myonichikan was designated as an important cultural property in May 1997. Oya-stone is used extensively in the Myonichikan as well as in Imperial Hotel in Tokyo beacase it is soft enough in which to carve geometrical patterns. However it also deteriorates easily. Because the Myonichikan had become superannuated many parts of Oya-stone have deteriorated and there were structural problems. Therefore restoration work was conducted from 1999 to 2001. This paper arranges details of restoration according to various building structures where Oya-stone is used such as basements, columns, fireplace, chimney, etc. This will provide important data for restoration and preservation of buildings using Oya-stone.

‘Resauro’ of historical theaters in Italy is characterized by design activities called ‘Intervento’, which is balanced with the preservation of historic monuments. This study illustrates a method of an architect to meet the new functional requirements whilst preserving the historic importance of Teatro Dante in Campi Bisenzio in Tuscany. It shows the bold alteration of the interior configuration and an addition of a new wing in modern design as well as the preservation of the main façade and the volume of auditorium. The parts to be preserved were carefully selected and the parts to be altered were clearly articulated from the old structures. The research was conducted by interviewing the architect and the close comparison of the existing and old drawings.

Mainly based on data from officially published reports of repair works, this paper aims to study the use of carbon fiber in the repair and reuse of wooden architectural members in Japan and identifies types and methods for using carbon fiber in architectural heritage repair.
Results show that it is used particularly after earthquakes, to improve structural defects, to minimize the amount members to replace, or to improve resistance to certain types of damages. However the application of carbon fiber in such repairs has thus far been effective, examples are few and results need to be monitored further for evaluation.

We did the three analysises used the parallel processing on HPC system. One is an analysis of the urban structure in the field of urban and architectural planning. Another one is a dynamical simulation of air conditioning facilities in the field of environmental engineering. The other is an analysis of the behavior of the masonry construction in the field of construction engineering.
We clarified the availability of the HPC system in an architectural field because of the improvement of the computational speed and the expansion of an analytical scale.

In this study, a simple system of seismic diagnosis is developed. In this system, potable accelerometer and impact force are used. The potable accelerometer was developed by Matsuura and Ohkubo. It is possible to measure vibration easily, because it dose not need wiring and it is compact. The impact force is used to vibrate wooden house. It can be given by human power, but in this study a vibration exciter is made in order to evaluate the present system precisely. The proposed system is evaluated by measuring the natural period and the damping factor of the experiment wooden house in Kinki University.

Architects and engineers are responsible for their designs to be compliant to many regulations such as building codes and public specifications. However, it is very difficult to retrieve all the necessary regulations for a building, and even more difficult to check the design by these regulations. In this report, an intelligent method is proposed to generate building code checking programs automatically. The author applies the natural language processing technique, and makes a converter from the Japanese building codes to conformance checking computer programs, which may be executed in the BIM environment in the future.

Although both involve spatial data, relationship between GIS and Space Syntax software has not been well researched and using GIS data for Space Syntax analyses has not been an easy operation. In this research, newly developed software, “PASTA”, which uses GIS data for Space Syntax analyses, is developed. PASTA is segment-analysis-based software and axial analysis can also be performed with automatically generated axial maps. PASTA handles both shape data and table data to makes full use of GIS data. Besides, the result is compared to hand-drawn axial map to clarify characteristics and problems of using GIS data for spatial analysis.

Rikuu Earthquake of 1896 was magnitude 7.2 earthquake that occurred inland between Akita and Iwate prefectures and caused 209 deaths and 779 injured. The authors have been surveyed this disaster with local publications. However, its recovering process cannot be revealed by lacking of local newspapers at that time. Recently we found local government document files on this earthquake disaster in the Akita Prefectural Archives. In this study, detailed recovery process obtained from correspondence by prefecture government and related facilities is traced in time series. Activities of emergency medical treatments by the Red Cross Society are also traced.

There are Voluntary disaster prevention organization and Local disaster management center in “Mutual-help efforts” system in disaster. This purpose of study is the examination of the state of “Mutual-help efforts” system in disaster by analysis of the exchanging views with committees of local disaster management center in Hodogaya Ward, Yokohama City. As future’s direction of “Mutual-help efforts” system, it is necessary to clarify each role of voluntary disaster prevention organization and local disaster management center and promotion of a measure with redundancy in local disaster prevention.
