The temperature of wheel-work contact surface in the case of carborundum grinding wheel is measured by means of a vacuum-tube potentiometer. The test results do not contradict with the theoretical conclusion published previously by the author. † That is : -
1) The wheel-work interface temperature increases in proportion to Δ063, where 4 is the depth of grind.
2) It also increases in proportion to
v0.26 and
V0.24, where
v and
V are the work speed and the wheel speed respetively.
As appendices, the heat distribution and chip temperature in the case of plunge-cut grindingare measured to be discussed.
