Generally, all of the antitumor agents which have been used in cancer chemotherapy inhibit selectively not only cancer cells but also normal cells adjacent to malignant tumor. As a result various side effects may occur. We carried out recently observation of effects on normal neonatal albino rat cells by explant culture method with antitumor agents (5-FU 5mcg/ml, MMC 0.4mcg/ml). It is the purpose of this paper to report effects on normal cells of antitumor agents from the standpoint of morphologic changes. The results obtained are as follows : 1) In 5-FU and MMC treatment, regressive degeneration of epithel like cells and fibroblast like ones was observed with the nuclei being affected first. Degree of degeneration in the latter was lower than that in the former. 2) As far as our observation was concerned, no significant difference between degenerative changes in cells due to 5-FU and those due to MMC was seen. 3) In dilantin sodium treatment a marked increase in fibroblast like cells was observed and different results from those of 5-FU and MMC were obtained. It was observed that many mitoses appeared to be abnormal division. 4) Excellent therapeutic results would be obtained if we determine, taking into consideration the side effects, dosage, administration time and frequency at the time of administration of the drugs.

The development of spherical amalgam alloy has given rise to a great deal of interest in the structure of set amalgam and physical properties prepared from these alloys. The present paper is concerned with the microstructure and amalgamation process of spherical amalgam alloy by scanning electron microscope. Major results were as follows : 1. The surface structure of spherical amalgam alloy shows petal-like structure formed by the growth of dendrites. This dendrites become larger as particle sizes increase. Such surface microstructure of spherical amalgam alloys makes the surface area larger inconceivably, thereby are regarded as a morphological factor to accerelate amalgamation. 2. Adjoinig areas of the dendrite branches and of the grain boundaries are smooth in annealing spherical alloys, but creasy and rough in non-annealing. 3. Commercial spherical alloys have minute particles on the surface. Some of the such particles are regarded as tin-rich segregation. Non-annealing amalgam alloys scarcely have such minute particles. 4. Some changes arise already 1 minute Hg-treatment on the alloy surface. This surface changes are divided broadly into two structures ; broad, irregular massive structure and net-work structure formed by the assembly of minute crystalites. It is assumed that the former is Ag-Hg phase and the latter is Sn-Hg phase.

A series of studies have been undertaken on the growth pattern of various oral traits in school children from 6 to 11 years of age. The subjects were 100 male and 100 female children selected from the first year grade classes of Minami-Kokura public school admitted April, 1956. Plaster cast models of the mouth were taken from every subjects and dimensional measurements were done on these models. Measurement was conducted once yearly at the fixed date and the amounts of yearly growth were calculated for every traits to be studied. Previous publications from our laboratory concerned with the sex difference in these traits. Present study deals with the amounts of growth of these traits and their age difference for both sexes. A total of 48 traits were studied including the physique, breadth of the dental arch, breadth of the mandibular alveolarus, the palatal height, length of the dental arch, and length of palatal vault. The data obtained for these items were computed statistically, using t-test for each group of traits, and mean ratio for the groups. The results obtained were summarised as follows.[table]

Kyorin AP2 was administered by Double Blind Method to one hundred and thirty-two cases and Placebo to forty-two cases with the disease of Dental Region. The results were as follows : (1) Effective rates of 90.2% on use of Kyorin AP2 and 61.9% on use of Placebo were obtained. (2) Kyorin AP2 proved effective within one hour in 79.4% and Placebo in 50%. (3) Side effect was seen in eighteen cases but was not serious.

The authors have experienced a case of 12-year-old girl with uncomplete speech articulation and velopharyngeal closure, who had undergone the plastic operation on cleft palate four times in the past. We performed palatal pushback and superiorly based pharyngeal flap operation on this patient. In five months after this operation, this patient's speech articulation was much improved. The postoperative results of vocal findings are as follows : the articularion of mono-syllable was recovered from 47% to 80%, meaningless three-syllable from 22% to 64%. In regard to the finding of the sound spectrogram, the energey of the "Ka" sound on the frontal consonant was obviously confirmed.

The cerebrovascular disease is the first killer in the Japanese population. This was apparently true in a recent epidemiologic study with a higher reliability. An analysis of 1000 autopsy records of cerebrovascular disease death in Japan in 1964 revealed more cerebral hemorrhages in acute deaths before age 60 while more cerebral infarcts in nonacute cases after age 60. In another study of 1000 brains, cerebral atherosclerosis was found of etiological significance in the development of cerebral infarcts. Atherosclerosis of aortas, carotid and vertebral arteries in 200 autopsies at the Kyushu University Hospital, Fukuoka, Japan, was far less severe than in 180 at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts, while cerebral atherosclerosis did not yield a significant difference between the two groups.
