Recently, it is noticed that prosthetic devices are effective for the treatment of patients with sleep apnea syndrome (SAS). Although the trend like this suggests that we prosthodontists will be able to contribute to the medical field, the education in this field is very poor in dental schools. Therefore, we have to study about a device for SAS and its treatment effect immediately to cooperate with the medical field In this report, we described the outline of SAS such as history, treatment method and treatment effect with literature review. we also described our approach for the patients with SAS and our research up to the present.

Among the examinations related to prosthetic dentistry, gothic arch tracing is applied for deciding horizontal jaw position. Check bite taking is applied for deciding the condyle path inclination measurement of the semi- adjustable articulator. In the clinical steps of complete denture construction in our department, gothic arch is taken after deciding the vertical dimension and mounting the working cast to the articulator. Check bite taking is taken after finishing upper and lower complete dentures. In this study, we tried simultaneous recording of both methods. Gothic arch was traced using an intraoral gothic arch tracer and then a bite record of centric relation and three of eccentric records such as protrusion, right and left laterotrusions were taken. This method is very useful because it is simple hand skill for dentists and is able to reduce chair time and visiting frequency of patients.

Electrolyzed acid water has been used for sterilizing and washing in dental practice because of strong bactericidal effects. Recently, electrolyzed neutral water (NW), which is called second-generation soft electrolyzed water, was developed. NW has excellent bactericidal effects, less corrosive effect on materials than electrolyzed acid water. Experientially, NW appears to be effective in stopping small hemorrhage. In this study, we examined the hemostatic effect of NW in animal testing. The end part of the mice tail was cut off under general anesthesia and the remaining surface of amputation was immersed in 2ml NW for 30 seconds. After the immersion, a piece of filter paper was put on the incised surface to absorb the blood and time to stop bleeding was measured. The same measurements were carried out with three commercial dental local hemostatics for dental use : Bosmin^[○!R] solution, Liquid thrombin, TDZ. NW significantly shortened bleeding time compared with non-treatment. The effect of NW was at the same level as that of Bosmin^[○!R] solution and Liquid thrombin. For further consideration, samples and mice blood were blended and observed the change with the naked eye. Hemolysis was found in the case of NW, and blood clot appeared in TDZ. Hemostatic mechanism of NW seems to be different from that of TDZ. These results suggest that NW shows hemostatic effect clinically and is useful for rinsing or gargling in such cases with small blood oozing as alveolar pyorrhoea and wound after extraction of teeth.
