This study aimed to examine the relationship between oral amenity and the medical examination data of 518residents of S town(173 men and 345 women aged ≧40 years)in Okinawa. The oral amenity data were available for 1994 only, and serum biochemistry records were available for 1994, 1995, and 1996. Multiple logistic regression analyses were performed for both the ownteeth(own teeth only)group and denture group, with oral amenity as an independent variable and serum biochemistry records as dependent variables. The results showed that in the own teeth group, impaired utterance was a significant risk factor for hightriglyceride levels in 1994(OR=11.32, 95% CI: 1.81-70.86, p < 0.05) , in the denture group, unsatisfaction for chewing comfort was a significant risk factor for lowBMI in 1996(OR= 0.18, 95% CI: 0.04-0.90, p < 0.05) , impaired utterance was a significant risk factor for high BMI in 1996(OR= 4.10, 95% CI: 1.13-14.91, p < 0.05) , unsatisfaction for chewing comfort was a significant risk factor for low TG in 1996(OR=0.15, 95% CI: 0.03-0.83, p < 0.05) , and tolerable denture condition was asignificant risk factor for high TG in 1995(OR= 3.49,95% CI: 1.47-8.26, p < 0.01) . Thus, I found the significant relationship between oral amenity and medical examination data. In conclusion, it is indicated that oral amenity should reasonably provide useful information in area health promotion. (237 words)
