The effects of atropine sulfate, N-butylscoplamine bromide (Buscopan) and N (4-n-butoxy-benzyl) atropine bromide (Coliopan) on heart rate of healthy male volunteers were compared. After administration of 10 mcg/kg of atrophine all 2 volunteers exhibited at least 22% decrease in heart rate. Two out of 3 volunteers exhibited an increase in heart rate with a dose of 300 mcg/kg of buscopan. After administration of 30 mcg/kg to 70 mcg/kg of coliopan, all volunteers exhibited an apparent increase of heart rate. Those increase of heart rate seems to be dose depenedt.

Effects of light and tetanic muscle contraction on venous out-flow, hematocrit (Hct), plasma total protein (protein), H^+, Pco_2, Po_2 and plasma osmolality through muscle were investigated in the rabbit hindlimb. Metarteriolar vasodilatation and capillary-tissue fluid movement were discussed hydrodynamically. The results obtained were as follow. The degree of contraction hyperemia depended upon the intensity of sciatic nerve stimulation. In light contraction of 1 to 10 Hz the flow increased rapidly from the begining of start. In tetanic contraction of 20 to 50 Hz the flow decreased at the first 15 sec, then increased gradually to the maximal level. In both patterns of contraction hyperemia the rapid increase in Hct and protein were observed. Hct increase on the average was about 104% by 5 Hz and 108% by 50 Hz. Hct_<max> in typical example was about 120% by severe contraction (Hct value : 42.5→51.0%). The percent change in plasma volume calculated from the Hct ratio and proportionality factor was -7.8% by 5Hz and -12.7% by 50Hz. Average protein increase was about 109% by 5 Hz and 116% by 50Hz. The computed increase in protein was approximately +1.2% and +3.3%, respectively. Plasma H^+, Pco_2 and plasma osmolality increased gradually during contraction, and osmolality max was obtained in the first 1∿2 min of post-contraction hyperemia. Po_2 decreased gradually during contraction and Po_2 minimal was obtained in a min after contraction. Then, Po_2 retuned to the control level with a slow oscilating changes. The data suggest that the water supply to the tissue may start at the early stage of contraction in a slow blood flow component (true capillaries). Tissue fluid dynamics during contraction was discussed theoretically in connection with the activity of a fast blood flow component (metarteriolar dilatation), pressure difference in arteriole and venule, osmolality in plasma and interstitial fluid and a participation of lymphatics.

Plasma samples from 45 pulmonary disease patients were examined by starch gel electrophoresis for the electrophoretic variation of alpha_1-antitrypsin (α_1-AT) and the mean value of trypsin inhibiting capacity (T.I.C.). The deficient types of α_1-AT, namely ZZ, SZ, SS were not found in this samples, but only two showed ME type. The mean value of T.I.C. (1.257mg/ml. serum) was not significantly different with that of normal population (1.229mg/ml. serum). It was more likely that the allele of Pi^z was extremely rare in Japanese population. No definite association with pulmonary disease and α_1-AT deficient types was found in this study. Furthermore, the distribution of various polymorphic traits (Tf, Hp, PGM, ACP, PGD, EsD) were studied to detect the association with pulmonary diseases. No statistic significances were obtained.

Microscopic and electron microscopic studies were performed on muscle obtained at biopsy from a 35-year-old man with myotonic dystrophy. Microscopically, in addition to the selective type-1 atrophy which have been emphasized in the literature, changes were observed in type-II fiber, namely the increase in the fiber diameter and the reduction of the fiber population, as well as the destruction of the fiber structure. An electron microscopic examination revealed various diffuse changes in the subcellular structures, such as the fragmentation and the derangement of myofibrils, the swelling and the gathering of mitochodria, and the proliferation of sarcoplasmic reticulum. A lattice-like network of tubules was observed and the correlation of this abnormal structure with myotonic phenomenon was discussed.

The therapeutic effects of SM. INH. EB in the initial treatment of the pulmonary tuberculosis were investigated comparing with the regimen of SM. INH. PAS. The cases with positive tubercle bacilli were divided into two groups at random. 1.0g of EB or 10.0g of PAS were administrated daily with 0.4g of INH and 1.0g of SM. The background factors of the cases in each group were almost similar. The rate of bacilli conversion in sputa at 1 and 2 months and improvements of chest radiograms at 3 months were higher in EB group at 5% level stastically significance. At 6 months no significant difference between them. In EB group 4 cases due to SM and 1 case due to EB were dropped out, while in PAS group 1 case due to SM and 3 cases due to PAS were done because of side effects. In conclusion, the regimen of SM. INH. EB were obtained much efficacy in the improvement of the clinical findings especialy at earlier term.

686 (629 are over 2 years old) children have recieved vaccination with attenuated strain LC16m8 vaccinia. It was adminstrated by multiple pressure method. The rate "read as successful prise" is 94.3%, and the incidence of febrile reactions is 2.9%. Seroconversion was noted in all 29 children tested. Comparable antibody levels were obtained, and mean HI antibody titer was 2^<4.0> 2months after vaccination and 2^<3.6> after 6 months. No sever complication occured in any of 686 children recieving tha attenuated vaccinia. The LC16m8 strain of vaccinia appeares to be effective for primary vaccination of children.

Foreign bodies in the extremities are not so rare, and usually, concerning to their diagnosis, it is easy in many cases. But sometimes it seems difficult to remove them. We have treated 14 cases of foreign bodies from 1971 to September, 1975 and reported on 6 cases of them. So we attempted a review of the literature about sex, age, removal, reaction of bone and so on.
