In this experiment, a simple CA storage system with an aspirator type CO
2 scruber using water was devised and the experiment was run to ascertain the capability and actuality of the system, using laboratory scale models.
Exp. 1. Respiration of agricultural products in air tight condition was decreased by the change in the air composition, gradually. The respiration rate was effected by temperature, the concentration of oxygen and their mutual action.
Exp. 2. A nomograph for CO
2 gas concentration in the model CA room, was made from several rates of scrubbing CO
2 by the scruber.
Exp. 3. Substituting a constant from the nomograph made in the exp. 2. to following equation, CO
2 concentration in the model store room could be estimated well.
C(t)=C
0·e
-at+Qrt, Qr=(22.4/44.0·qr·G)/Va
where C (t) is CO
2 concentration (%, vol.) after t hrs from the start of scruber running C
0 is CO
2 concentration in the model room of initial (%, vol.), Qr is the respiration rate of products (%, vol.), t is time from the start of scrubbing (hrs), qr is the respiration rate (CO
2mg/kg/hr), G is the weight of storage products (kg) and Va is the air space in the store room (cm
3).
