Clinical Laboratory Centor, Kansai Medical University Hospital Department of Pediatrics, Kansai Medical University Kori Hospital Department of Pediatrics, Kansai Medial University This study compares the clinical usefulness of DPOAEs with ABR for children for the evaluation of hearing impairment. Both DPOAEs and ABR were performed on 43 children (14 days to 10years) (62 ears). (1) We could not obtain DPOAEs at f2=537 Hz in children with normal hearing because of high noise floors; (2) We defined as normal DPOAEs, the number of frequencies which showed the DP gram-noise floor≥4 dB was≥four at seven f2 frequencies, fom 977 Hzto 7,959 Hz; (3) The results of DPOAE were different from ABR in children with otitis media erosiva; (4) Two patients with no ABR response showed positive DPOAE over 4,004 Hz. Our study indicates that DPOAEs represent a simple procedure, which can be performed easily to obtain reliable results in children.
