To investigate the effect of feed rate
F on shape separation efficiency η of the rotating conical disk with a spiral scraper for irregular particles, the shapes of particles separated on the disk were evaluated by an index ρ
(tu) of rolling frictional characteristics of a particle closely related to its three-dimensional shape. The results obtained were as follows:
1. The separation efficiency η*
m under hindered traveling conditions along the scraper (at larger
F) depends on the separation characteristics of individual particles under the unhindered traveling condition (at
F≈0), and on the number of particles arranged normal to the spiral scraper.
2. Optimal operating conditions could be derived from the above correlation.
