    The effect of an inlet guide plate and inlet clean air on particle separation performance was examined by experiment and numerical simulation. It is found that the 50% cut size shows a minimum value with an inlet width ratio of 0.4 under the same pressure drop condition. The increase of cyclone pressure drop by the inlet guide plate decreases by use of a new inlet air inflow method as proposed in this research. By use of the inlet guide plate and inlet air inflow method, the optimum value of the corrected inlet width ratio is determined.
    Further, from the particle trajectory simulation, particles entering into the cyclone with inlet air inflow tend to move to the circular wall region due to the strong centrifugal effect of the fluid flow. Particle collection efficiency of the cyclone using the inlet guide plate and inlet air inflow method is greater than that of the standard cyclone and the experimental results agree with the simulation results.

    When nano-sized tiny roughness is processed on a surface, the prevention of dust adhesion can be expressed by the decreasing of the van der Waals force between rugged surface and dust particle. Using nanoparticle coating on a textile, the tiny roughness can be created on a textile and the preventive effect of dust particle adhesion can be given to the cloth. This effect is applicable to working clothes etc. Generally, clothes are washed in order to remove the dirt on it, so the nanoparticle coating on a textile and the preventive effect of dust adhesion may be decreased by washing process. In order to add the functionality to the preventive effect of dust adhesion on the clothes in a practical uses, the improvement in the durability for washing is very important.
    In this research, we confirm the preventive effect of dust adhesion and measured the effect of the number of washing on the preventive effect of dust adhesion on a textile. From our experimental results, the durability of the nanoparticle coating and the preventive effect of dust adhesion can be improved using acetalized polyvinyl alcohol treatment.

    Cobalt blue is widely used as coloring agents in ceramics, glassware, and plastic products, etc., due to the chemical and thermal stability. In this study, the influence of mixing time and calcination temperature on the color tone of cobalt blue was investigated. Cobalt blue particles were synthesized by the solid phase reaction method with cobalt oxide (Co3O4) as Co source and aluminium hydroxide (Al(OH)3) as Al source, respectively. The obtained powders were characterized by CIE-L*a*b* color space, particle size distribution, SEM-EDX, and XRD. The chromaticity coordinate b* of the calcinated powder was shifted to blue direction, and the chroma represented by c* became vivid with increasing calcination temperature. This means the color tone of the cobalt blue powder becomes vivid blue. However, the color tone of the calcinated powder barely changed even if the mixing time of raw materials was increased. XRD analysis of the calcinated powder revealed the formation of the single-phase CoAl2O4 at 1200 ℃. These results indicate that the color tone of cobalt blue is mainly controlled by the calcination temperature in the solid phase reaction method.

    In a chemical surface modification, effects of modified conditions on adhesive force were investigated. As test samples, propyl-modified plates were prepared by 36 different modified conditions on Si plates. The surface free energy and surface roughness of the modified plates were measured. Furthermore, adhesive forces between the modified plates and unmodified silica particle were measured by an AFM colloidal probe technique. As a result, the energy, the roughness and the force were 24.8~54.8 mJ/m2, 0.04~56.0 nm and 0.78~7.32 mN/m, respectively. The contribution ratio of each factor on the adhesive force was investigated by multiple regression analysis. From this result, a hydrophilic treatment (= pretreatment of the modification) had a highest contribution. This is because a type of hydrophilic treatment generated the differences of surface roughness and hydrophilic property of the Si plate. Molecular structures of propyl chain in the modified layer might be also changed by these differences and affect the adhesive force.

    Synthesis of hollow nano silica particles with methyl groups based on inorganic template method. Typically, silica coating on calcium carbonate template is formed via sol-gel reaction, and then template is removed by addition of diluted hydrochloric acid solution. When a methyltriethoxysilane (MTES) having one methyl group was used for silica coating, hollow structures were not obtained because of its slow reactivity and low affinity with calcium carbonate surface. Therefore, when MTES was mixed with tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) for silica coating, hollow structures were obtained for enough reaction time and optimum MTES/TEOS rate. The hybrid hollow particles exhibited hydrophobic so that high affinity with dispersing medium and matrix can be achieved.
