We developed the Environmental Monitoring System that was able to combine a collection of the measurement data of the broad zone and immediacy, whose draw on the cell-phone network or human power conventionally. This system was installed on the site of EXPO2005 in Aichi as Environmental Monitoring System (Expo Amedas) and its stability and immediacy were confirmed.

A workshop about city planning and urban climate was organized in Nagano city. Planning for the future was discussed based on Germany case, broad overview of the target area and climate data. The participants obtained the following results. 1. Vegetation is poor. It is necessity that development of parks and road greenings. 2. Trunk mall road for walking should be wide thoroughfare for wind chill factor. 3. Blind ditch should be open, developed for wind roads and habitat of lightning bugs. 4. The roofs of public buildings should be greening. Each feedback is effective for improvement of thermal environment.

GIS data base system was established with many kinds of statistical data and urban environmental data. The data are able to search, to analyze and exhibitive on map data. Urban environmental map was developed, and it was applied to urban environmental analysis with statistical data. Two types examples were analyzed. The distribution of air temperature difference between day and night was analyzed. The relation between road traffic noise and road traffic volume was analyzed. It was proved that GIS data base system is effective to understand environmental problem in urban area.

In Shiodome area, which is located the coastal area in Tokyo, there is a cluster of high-rise buildings. Though its windbreak effect on thermal environment has been considered as a serious problem in summer, there are few reports about wind field around these buildings. In this paper, the extent of wake region was investigated by the wind tunnel experiment. And the change of ventilation rate in a street canyon was also examined with the original water evaporation method using filter paper. While the decrease of wind speed is considerable above the canopy, the reduction of diffusion ability is not so large concerning the pedestrian level.

In this paper, we introduce the importance of the use of supplementary air-conditioning behavior toward energy conservation. The questionnaire survey was done for the resident of housing complex in Kyoto city in the summer and winter. The results indicate the possibility that making good use of supplementary air-conditioning conserve behavior energy.

The purpose of this study is to discuss the effects of ambient colors on arousal level and on the changes of arousal level with time. The results are summarized as follows: 1. It is suggested that the changes of arousal level with time are different according to ambient colors. 2. Although the difference of the effects of ambient colors between genders are vague, the effects of green show different tendency from the other colors. Furthermore, the relationships between preference to colors and the effects of ambient colors are discussed.

Sustainable buildings with low environmental impact have attracted great social concern. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the environmental impact of a sustainable building which utilizes local timbers quantitatively with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method. In addition, the comparison of the environmental impact of local timbers use with imported timbers use is tried in this research. This research describes the outline of the environmental impact assessment of local structural glued laminated timbers based on field survey and the effect of environmental load reduction by the local timbers use.

This study is to develop LCA tool that can estimate resource sustainability for buildings. We have already reported the outline of this tool in the former report (part. 1). We make some case studies for a middle-sized office building by this tool. In these case studies, we have extimated the effect of structural selection, usage of recycled materials, and recycling of wastes. We can show that usage of recycled aggregate is effective for reduction of resource consumption. And also, reuse of waste soil, recycling of sludge and debris are important. Recycling of wastes from dry-typed walls is necessary for a steel structural building. Usage of recycled aggregate and recycling of debris is necessary for a RC structural building.

The number of domestic existing houses has been increasing; over 46 million in 2003. However, all those insulation levels are not high enough. Therefore in the household section, the renovation of thermal insulation is expected for the effective reduction of greenhouse gas. This research describes new renovation method for thermal insulation through the experiments with injecting poly-urethane foam into model walls. Further more, according to the results of those experiments, we clarify the effect on LCCO_2 reduction.

The purpose of this study is to reduce the exhaust air volume in the commercial electrified kitchens. In this study, we proposed the new shape of the hood for induction heater, and evaluated the performance of it by the experiment. As a result, it is confirmed that we can reduce the exhaust air volume by adopting this hood, with satisfied the ventilation performance same as the ordinary hood.

The purpose of this paper is to capture the characteristics of elderly's living style by using bed and chair in public housing in Niigata. The main findings are as follows. 1) It's one of the reasons for elderly couples separate bedrooms that husband or wife using bed, and the elderly couples taking daily living space in different rooms is related to husband or wife takes chair-seat only. 2) Some problems are incurred from using bed and chair, for example, larger space is necessary when the chair-seat exists together with the floor-seat. The living spaces of husband and wife are separated from each other when one of them uses bed and chair only, etc. 3) For the single elderly, by using bed and chair, the place of dining and entertaining separate from the daily living phace, further, the daily living place is distributed in one room.

This research surveys records of repair order from home owners. Firstly, it focuses on height of window openings. 93% of the damaged windows exist on the first floor and are located within the height of 1.5m from the ground. On the upper floor, most of damaged windows face balconies near-by holds, such as drainpipes. Then it categorises positions of damage windows in relation to the streets. The damages are mainly found at the back of the houses, or at over 6m from streets. These suggest that importance of "natural surveillance" from neighbors and of "access control" of blind zone.

This research investigated about the present condition of the typical mini-development area near the metropolitan area developed in the 1960s. The process of development was clarified by the aerial photograph and the housing map, ahd the situation of renewal of houses was researched from the questionnaire and the construction plan outline of public document. This residential section has few large-scale vacant lots, and there are few rebuilding, extensions. It is important for reconstruction of this residential area to utilize the vacant houses and vacant lot next to a residence.

The study has conducted a questionnaire with observational researches on two prefectures. Hokkaido and Aomori, to find out required explanations of public apartment's utilization during the winter. As a result, three following issues show positive impacts of using "Gangi" as a common space around dwellings. 1) Gangi is a place to secure inhabitants while outdoor environment is extremely restricted in the winter. It is a place for creating children play environment and aged's rehabilitation space. 2) The effect of lifestyle formed "Gangi" variously. This is due to human utilizations of indoor functions. 3) Gangi proved the possibilities of providing an easy outwalking-transportation system that enhances social relations between neighbors in the winter.

This paper evaluates communal housing units with south-side-in planning. They can be a good solution for isolated elderly people's life in public housings, but it is also a difficult planning scheme when residents themselves do not understand its characteristics. We interviewed residents in 3 different type of south-side-in public communal housing in Hokuriku region. Important findings are; 1) if living room, dining room and kitchen are facing to southern common space (ail), residents and their neighbors actively communicate through windows, 2) flexible buffer space is important for residents to create communicative space according to their preferences, and so on.

In order to make research on the resulted condition and the effects through the housing repairs covered by Long-term care insurance, data classification, questionnaire and fact-finding survey were carried out. The subjects of the survey were classified, according to severe nursing case. Considering a qualifying standard of Long-term care insurance, care level 3 elderly people were mainly targeted. Both Care level 3 elderly people and their caregivers found the least satisfaction in the effects regarding reduction of physical and psychological burden and increase in self-activities through the housing repairs. Care level 3 elderly people recognize that living activities by their own efforts were increased, but not in regards to the line of flow in the housing. It is necessary for elderly people to foe inspired with middle or long term future respects without losing their motivation of self-support through the housing repairs.

There are many unoccupied dwelling units in the housing estates that have been supplied in a large quantity from 1955, for their old-fashioned layout and deterioration of facilities now. It is environmentally and socially important to recycle them as resources without breaking down such housing estates. We suggest self-repairing by inhabitants as one of the methods of the housing stock management. We define it as "Self-repair". By making the most of the great energy of inhabitants who desire the ideal housing in the field of restitution duty of the original state, it can be said that the existent public housing which has been built for thirty years or more will be connected to the improvement of its quality.

This paper aims to consider how we should plan the integrated facilities within functions of nursery school and day nursery for children through understanding the current state of these facilities. For this purpose, firstly we conducted a questionnaire survey. In the former paper, we have proposed to install some old goods and Tatami space into the facility for the demented elderly to reduce the trouble behavior. This paper treats fondly-remembered regional scene is installed into the corridor where the demented elderly use in the hospital. The level of dementia is measured with MOSES scale in the normal area and reminiscence area. Two of three subjects reveal improvement of dementia clearly. It means environment reminiscence therapy is verified to be useful and effective for the demented elderly.

This thesis studies the environmental symbiosis technologies, which are applied to refurbishment and improvement of small-to-medium size old urban building stocks. The study was examined through the renewal project of a 36-year-old laboratory building of Kanto-Gakuin University. Part one explains the design concepts and the integration of various symbiosis technologies in this project. The unit devices of the symbiosis technologies are strategically placed on the building surface to realize architectural integration.

We studied the transformation of housing units which have KEP (Kodan Experimental housing-Project) movable partitioning system, built in 1982. As children grew, almost 40% of the families moved and/or took away the KEP partitioning walls to make their living rooms larger. This paper suggests that the KEP movable partitioning system has been used properly by the residents to adapt the room arrangement to the changes of their life in these 23 years.

A hearing impaired person's condition can not easily be understood as it is not readily apparent that the individual has a disability. There were many opinions expressed which made it clear that it is inappropriate for there to be no consideration for hearing impaired person in the Building Accessibility Improvement Act. This research aimed, in light of these opinions, to make several surveys at schools for disabled children and some hearing impaired person organizations, a questionnaire and interviews. Also an analysis was done on the environment in and around building, their barriers, and activities around the hearing impaired that impact on them as well as to examine architectural correspondence in the future.

In this research I take up the convenience store as 24-hour type facilities, to analyze the location situation of facilities on some cases such as daytime, night, accumulation nature, and a stronghold-role. Then I tried examination through the analysis using quantification theory type I as factors by the location of conventionally type urban facilities and same kind facilities. As the results of the case when thinking by a stronghold-role, the nighttime population and existence of educational facilities, etc. to be the factor of the location of an institution, and the influence by existence of same kind stores was shown strongly, and it turned out that relation with the location of the daytime population and the monetary facilities are also remarkable by the analysis in congeries nature. Furthermore, I also tried prediction analysis about the area of new facilities which can be generated.

This paper deals with the activity of the inhabitant group that renovated a thatched roof house and reused as Japanese noodle restaurant and meeting home. The purpose of this study is to clear the condition that the reuse of tradition house realized by the volunteer activities of the inhabitant group. As a result, the factors which activities succeeded are as follows. The interchange activities of three years and more brought the will to regenerate the house to the people who participated and farmers who have techniques like craftsman made the reuse of the thatched roof house possible by volunteer job.

The purpose of this thesis is to propose "heuristic method of exchange creation" to create the interaction between urban and rural area. Recently, the land readjustment projects are advanced. The problem is that we cannot share the image of the new city space until the projects are completed. Then, the purpose of this report is to develop the common supporting tools that we can widely share the space image each other. The results are follows. 1) We have been able to present the development of "Space image common supporting tool" with "Virtual space experience function", "CG animation function", and "WEB-GIS function" on the WEB. 2) It is easy to use the tool for a young, but it is not easy for a senior. 3) It was evaluated that "CG animation" imaged the space more easy than "VR".

In historical cites, there are many unused or inappropriately used houses because of decreasing population. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to clarify the reason why these houses have been vacant for a long time and find out the method of renovation. Many owners of vacant houses have intention to reuse these houses, but most of them meet financial problem. There are several houses that were converted into non-living use successfully. In these cases, town manager has helped owner to rent or sell their house. Thus, town manager plays an important role in renovation work.

Recently, increase in under-utilized or unused land like parking lots and vacant houses has become a problem in the central areas of the local cities. The objective of this study is to clarify the awareness of the land and building owners conceming land use in the central district of Toyohashi city. Therefore, this study explores the realities of land use through investigation of property tax ledgers and analyzes future land use intentions from a questionnaire survey. This article describes the factors leading to under utilization of land based on the owner awareness and the realities.

Old Hagiyama area, Nagoya was reviewed in 1970 and divided in Yagoto scenic district (SD) and removed district (RD). In this study, from 1970 to 2004, we examine the regulation effect in this area. Using GIS with block data and statistical analysis, we got the following results; (1) Until 2004, RD drawn apart SD because of mainly built-up of flats and condominiums. (2) Multiple regression analysis (MRA) estimates that contorl effects of 9.9 houses / ha in SD in this period. (3) The green coverage ratios in 2000 are estimated to 2.0% increase by MRA, 2.7% by block type categorization.

In this paper, we attempt to grasp an area setting plan of a care service infrastructure and the method of implementation. The candidates for investigation are 6 local governments. It was found that they have two kinds of plans. (1) The area for care service is the same as that for a home care support center, and the local government has the leadership (for development). (2) The area for care service is newly set for location planning of welfare facilities for the elderly, and an entrepreneur of care service has the leadership.

Most local cities with a population of less than 100,000 in Japan now face the problem of the hollowing out of central area including increases in vacant shops. Downtown redevelopment by introduction of public facilities is one solution to such a problem. This study aims to rate and analyze the popularity of such public facilities for redevelopment and their effect on central area from the citizens' standpoint. The research revealed that while many citizens have noted an increase in such events as concerts and training seminars, such facilities are not seen as having led to the revitalization of central area.

"Charrette", originally a French word, denotes an intense work session that includes analyzing a focused area and proposing future designs for the area. It is becoming popular in the urban design field. GIS seems to be useful in charrette because GIS can provide considerable geographic information to participapnts efficiently. Therefore, we held a Japan-US collaborative charrette using GIS. This paper is intended to report the method and its results. Results show that GIS is actually useful in design processes.

This paper presents the development of the business support software that uses the ASP (Application service provider) base to aim at the support of the asset management and property management for real estate in Japan. In this paper, the discovered new historical records are introduced about the construction of "Kinoshita-shi Shidou" which checked existing. As far as especially I get to know, there is no example which reported the new historical records of "Shidou" which the builder designed. In this paper, the discovered new historical records report that it is what should be observed on arts and sciences. There are 16 drawings of new discovery in all. When existing building and drawing are compared, there is no change of a fundamental portion. It is the grade as which some change is regarded by the circumference of a building. Not a residence but the drawing drawn to "Shidou" of a cemetery has many full-size drawings and detail views. As mentioned above, it can be said that this paper became discovery of precious new historical records.

This report aims to explain the structural futures of the cocoon warehouses of Shimosuwa Soko Company and the developing process of the warehouses in Suwa area. The four cocoon warehouses, mud-walled and multi storied, were built in 1901 and 1912. To realize more stories and spaces in newer ones, the company adopted the new structure plan containing the wider spans between beams, European roof truss, and the two storied pillars. As the new plan is similar to others in this area, it can be said the unique and local building plans including western technique were developed in a short term.

In this paper, a management and operation system of building information is proposed by using RFID and database system. As for an objective building, unit type houses are employed. Life cycle of the objective houses are divided into 6 stages, and application systems of management and operation system in each stage are developed. Relational database systems are employed as database. Users of proposed system in each stage can access data stored in RFID tags. By using key data stored in RFID tags, data stored in database can be accessed and searched. Effectiveness of the proposed system in each stage is discussed and applicability of RFID is also charified.

Results of deep underground structure survey in the Nobi plain and other surrounding large sedimentary plains in Tokai area have been compiled using a web-based geographic information system (Web-GIS). Data and analyzed results on surface soil layers, observed strong motion and microtremor are also included in the system. Web-based 3-D interface has been developed for understanding spatial shape of underground soil structure. Web interface has advantage on network access via the Internet without any special softwear. This system is effective in integrating various kinds of data on ground and earthquake response, and is useful for engineers to assist their structural design and disaster mitigation.

Urban design is a key to revitalization of cities. Its research and education have been executed in architecture and planning schools. The case study is on a six-year series of an undergraduate architecture and planning studio which has four themes; vision of cities, plan of districts, design of urban space and enablement of projects. This paper reveals the studio's program and process, evaluates students' works and understanding, clarified their relation, and finally proposes a method of urban design education.

Since being incorporated into the Building Industry Policy Outline in 1995, training has been more clearly defined and increasingly sought after for implementing efficient work practices among building site workers. The present research examines the plastering industry. Currently, in the construction industry, there is a growing need to secure, develop, and utilize highly skilled plasterers who are able to serve as team leaders or coordinators (in other words, plastering site supervisors) in order to organize the plasterers working on a building site, coordinate with team leaders from other trades, and propose effective operational methods and procedures to site engineers.

Occurrence of The 2004 Niigata-Ken Chuetsu Earthquake rendered relatives scrutinize from the extet damage to affected daily life considering isolation of community or soaring ageing ratio. In this paper, we took up Kawaguchi Town in Niigata Prefecture as model, because of its devastated area, near epicenter with observation of seismic intensity level 7 on JMA scale. At first, we recapitulated the other research achievements related to refuge environment, in addition to measures reflected from catastrophe. Such outcomes were not paid much attention in cryogenic circumstance. Therefore, we conducted questionnaire survey for all household at the identical municipal town from Jan. to Feb. 2005. In this main theme, enquiry were consisted the troblesome, evacuation spot, volunteer needs and alteration of fettle. Resulted from the inquiry indicated that proximately half of enervated habitants scuttle away, and a quarter of responders stay tent even in short time. Ultimately, about 30% of interviewees complained raw conditions or wrecked health-giving, still the tendency was soaked and intensified among senile class. Finally, the authors suggested desirable earthquake disaster mitigation during wintry season

The Off Kamui-Misaki Earthquake of 1940 attacked Northwestem coastal region of Hokkaido and 10 persons were killed by accompanied Tsunami. However other shaking damages due to this earthquake have not appeared in earthquake catalogues. In this paper a literature surve was carried out through documents and newspaper articles. It is revealed that the damages are found at wide area of Western coast of Hokkaido and Southern Sakhalin and listed by municipalities. Slight building damages and ground failures were found in the town of Otaru, Yoichi and Iwanai.

The purpose of this study is to identify problems related to occupant safety in high-rise buildings in strong earthquakes. Questionnaire-based surveys were conducted after the 2003 Miyagiken-oki earthquake and the 2005 West off Fukuoka earthquake to investigate indoor damage and occupant behavior in selected high-rise buildings. The results of the investigations reveal the importance of rapid information transfer to occupants regarding building damage, which can serves both to reassure occupants and to ensure calm behavior immediately following the event. The study also summarizes a few important aspects to consider to enhance day-to-day earthquake disaster-prevention measures in high-rise buildings.

In this paper, authors report the results of questionnaire survey to estimate the seismic intensity distribution in Mitsuke-City affected by 2004 Mid Niigata earthquake. The result has shown the local difference in seismic intensity distribution, and the plain area were high seismic intensities and serious seismic damages corresponding to geomorphological feature. The seismic intensity by questionnaire survey was agreement with the observed seismic intensity at city hall.

The Ise and Owase towns in Mie prefecture, which will be the most heavily damaged area in the next Tonankai earthquake, are selected to consider how to reduce the seismic damage of traditional wooded houses in the rural area facing the problem of depopulation and aging. A questionnaire survey for local residents and evaluation of seismic capacity and durability for existing houses are performed. As a result, the following conclusions are obtained. 1) Seismic retrofit can be carried out when existing houses are extended according to the lifestyle modification. 2) Structural design for extension or seismic retrofit should be carried out appropriately so as not to increase eccentricity or decrease deformation performance. 3) Regular maintenance once every ten years are also effective to reduce damage.
