The objectives of this research are to understand the actual status of traditional houses along the Tea Horse Road between Tibet and Yunnan province in China.
This report focuses on to understand the peculiarities of houses around between The Old Town of Lijiang and The Old Town of Dali. The results can be concluded as follows:
Most of peculiarities are recognized on the facade design of the houses. However, it is also recognized that an impact of tourism on the houses, particularly around The Old Town of Lijiang. The impact of tourism disperses its own architectural peculiarities.

Play spots in provincial small cities have not been observed carefully recently. This paper reveals actual play spots of after school children in Katsuyama-city (Fukui Pref.), to collect information for future upgrading of living environment.
The data shows that children in the farming villages tend to play at the children center, which is prepared one in each school district. Playing with natural flowers or insects or exploring of the neighboring district is more common for children in town.
Many children play with their school friends rather than brothers, sisters or different aged neighbor friend.

This research is to clarified that the arrangement of the street trees influenced to the degree of a comfortableness or charm. And, the method of trees arrangement which are a tree interval by Fluctuation Theory are examined, the effectiveness of this method is verified. Some patterns of the tree interval are calculated by two pre-test, and the trees interval and density are decided. Next, some pattern with Fluctuation Theory are experimented, the evaluation value of each patterns are compared. Finally, the effectiveness of trees arrangement method using Fluctuation Theory and Computer Graphics is understood.

The Concept of the universal design is necessary in the design of pedestrian space. The pedestrian space is repaired in structural design, but the resting place of a side walk is not fully ensured. The aim of this paper is to discuss how to improve resting place from the results of investigation. As the contents of investigation, the benches of the sidewalk on the outskirts of a station are investigated and the investigated benches were divided into 5 groups. As the results, it is cleared that the plan of establishment of bench by the citizens should be reconsider.

Shirakabe Historic Preservation District, Nagoya, where also had kept comfortable detached house environment with the historic walls and gates, is now exposed to the invasion of high-rise housing. The residents hope the community future vision. However, because of mainly the lack of their mutual communication, face-to-face consensus building methods such as workshop are not effective enough. So, the authors planned to form their community vision through multi-Stage Feedback Questionnaires Method. This paper reports on this survey design and exploration of a future vision, that they can share. The effectiveness of this method is also to be examined.

Planning schools have pursued originalities through involvement in places and communities. Urban revitalization today requires collaboration so that partnership with public & private sectors and academy reveals examples. This paper reports the first year when Urban Design Center Kashiwa-no-ha was started by local community, private companies and universities to work on urban design for a suburban area being developed around a commuting station in Tokyo Metropolitan Area.

We have already proposed the cellular automata (CA) with the approach of the cohort-component method and the quantitative geography. The population fluctuation estimate system has been developed based on this method. In this report, a model on our CA with the geographic information system for the population fluctuation estimation is presented. Especially, the population change is processed by primary unit data on the geography that sticks to not the modeled mesh data but life. This system applies to three local municipality where the element components of a geography condition and a demographic structure are different. As a result, it is shown that information of each regional population change can be adequately offered.

This report has aimed to clarify the transformation process of how of DEWKS woman to work and how to live by using the panel data. The analysis method is as follows.
1)Comparison analysis of DEWKS and other lifestyles by cross tabulation
2)The feature of DEWKS is analyzed by the multiple correspondence analysis.
3)Data is compared with the time series, and the transformation process is analyzed.
It was clarified that coexisting type DEWKS woman was able to secure the working time. It is guessed that the environment that supports the load of the woman especially in the city part is requested.

Computer vision is concerned with the theory and technology for robot's eyes that obtain information from images. It focuses on how to reconstruct structure or other information about the 3D scene from one or several images. Tracking is one of the indispensable requirements for computer vision system and is responsible for registering the virtual world in the real world. The authors select a marker-based tracking method, which computes the location such as position and orientation of a square marker in physical space out of an image captured by a camera. In this paper, the authors would like to propose some applied tools for construction industry.

By using “Light Projection Method” in the 3-dimentional model, the simulation system was developed to visualize the extent of natural surveillance covering windows in the case of detached houses each of which is adjacent to one street. In this model, the strength of natural surveillance was visually showed as the brightness generated by artificial light that indicates the visibility. This simulation was evaluated in accordance with the results of the on-site research of actual houses suffering burglary damage.

The Jodo Hall of the Buddhist temple Jodo-Ji (1197, designated national treasure) was originally built by a priest Chogen on a low hill with a broad westward view in the Obe-no-sho manor area, and its frontal axis leans at an angle of approximately nine degrees from due west toward the north.
Focusing on this deviation of the frontal axis, this research studies the characteristics of the frontal axis of the Jodo Hall and the features of scenery open out on this frontal axis.

The importance of public spaces has been pointed out through environmental issues and disaster-prevention policy. In Otaru, present urban foundation was formed by city replanning plan after the 1904 great fire in Meiji era. With a specific focus on public spaces, this paper explores planning processes of fire prevention boulevards and parks, such as Otaru park, in Meiji era.

History of the traditional stone constructions, which are called Masia, in Catalonia, Spain dates back to the middle ages. Most of the remains were built from the 17th century downward and continue to exist as dwellings in farm area and other buildings after renovation.
This paper identifies the materials and construction methods of ancient Masia which are located at Fatxes area in Vandellos city, mainly focused on the masonry wall on the basis of the results from the interview with various professions, visual inspection and chemical analyses of the materials used in the objective Masia.

Bamboo was once an essential material for various tool production and building construction. In eastern Aichi prefecture, it is still in use on a large scale, especially for Koyagake, rural temporary theater, which is annually built in front of the Kabuki stage to provide shelter for the audience. The construction of the Koyagake at Sugimori Hachimansha site has been suspended for 46 years because of breakdown of the traditional community. In the latest movement of reevaluation of rural heritage, the villagers decided to restore the Koyagake with assistance of the author. This paper describes the process of restoration project, and argues the structural features.

With the introduction of a new curriculum, a major improvement of the architectural education is conducted at Meiji University. The followings are found important.
1. Site analysis can provide useful resources for architectural design. It can also advance the students' ability in related fields. 2. Proper response to the requirements and the surrounding condition of site are considered important. Thus, the appropriate program should be prepared. 3. The studio should be optimized according to the level of student's development. 4. The teaching staff's meeting must function effectively to create the organic alliance between the educational program and its operation.

In the previous paper, damage of seven earthquakes occurred in the offshore and inland areas of Hokkaido Hidaka province were surveyed and detailed damage were clarifi ed by each municipalities. In this paper, surveyed earthquakes were expanded to those reported grater than 4 in JMA Intensity scale in Urakawa town, the central town of Hidaka province. Totally 70 earthquakes from 1901 to 2006 were picked up and literature surveys were performed through damage reports and newspaper articles. Among them, 22 earthquakes caused damage in Urakawa town were found and detailed damage by local units were listed and mapped. Damage distribution was discussed in relation with historical formation and soil conditions and vulnerable areas can be revealed.

To know the damage and recovery process from past earthquakes is important to consider disaster prevention for those regions. In this study, Akita Senboku earthquake of 1914 is surveyed in details mainly referring newspaper articles at that time. This magnitude 7.1 earthquake occurred inland of Akita prefecture and caused huge human and physical damages. Newspaper articles related to this earthquake had been continued for two weeks and these are listed in a table. Damaging and recovering processes which are not appeared in the past reports can be traced.

We performed a damage survey of temples and shrines near the source region of the 2007 Niigata-ken Chuetsu-oki earthquake to estimate the distribution of strong ground motions. We constructed a function to estimate peak ground velocity from the damage rank of main hall of temples and shrines, and estimated the PGV distribution in the source region. From our results, the PGV in the most of the Kashiwazaki basin exceeds 100cm/s. This PGV distribution agrees with the PGV estimated from the attenuation relationship and surface soil amplification. The conventional estimation method using the ratio of overturned tombstones underestimates the PGV in the basin.

Questionnaire surveys were carried out on numbers and fixing conditions of some household goods for various families in the whole country using internet system. In part 1, analyses of questionnaire survey revealed that which of household attributes have large influence on numbers of household goods, and the average numbers of household goods were calculated for influential household attributes. The results can be utilized for estimation of earthquake damage not only to household goods but also to people in house due to overturn of household goods.
