In Itsuki Vil., characteristic wooden storehouses are distributed. We investigated about the wooden structure system, how to use storehouse, and the location form of storehouses. The thing stored on the inside is cereals made from the shifting cultivation. Pillars are built on stones and the floor level is very high. The structure system looks like the building of other regions such as Hachijyojima and Amamioshima.

In this study, the general relationship between Japanese speech sound and architecture constructive style is examined. In knowing what kind of constructive style the architecture name reminds with the approach developed in this study, the judgment that real architect name concordant with real constructive style became almost possible.
Moreover, from the result of the questionnaire using the model, Grounds to be related to a sound and a visual impression were almost discovered in the case also showing models or its photographs.

This study aims to identify a characteristics of the remaining alleys toward the urban traditional houses in the old castle district of Daegu. We examined the topological layout and architectural phenomena in the district. The results are as follows; 1) Topological Depth of remaining alley areas is decreasing from 1920. 2) The alleys with urban traditional house are more winding and has more number of dead ends than that without urban traditional houses. 3) The alley areas with urban traditional houses are included more dead end alleys, with smaller buildings for residential use than that without them.

Preservation of townscape has been being carried out under the system of “Preservation Districts for Groups of Traditional Buildings” and local governments’ own independent codes as well, following the system mentioned first. Such preservation has been being done mainly in rural areas, but it is important in large cities as well since they have to face developers’ pressures to preserve their own townscape. Nagoya city, one of the active megalopolises, is a good example which has a code in order to preserve its own townscape. This research aims to clarify the actual situation of the maintenance of the traditional buildings in Arimatsu Preservation District of Nagoya City.

Japan has 98 Preservation Districts for the Groups of Historic Buildings, where a number of restoration projects are implemented as the central task. This paper discusses the challenges of the restoration projects in preservation districts(PD), based on the investigation of full record of restoration projects for 15 years in Imai-cho Preservation District located in Nara Prefecture. Approx. 36 percent of the historic buildings of Imai-cho have already been restored. Nevertheless, (i) the restoration of rental houses or row houses have not well proceeded, and (ii) the restoration works have been expanded.

As factories in the Yokkaichi petrochemical industrial complex faced severe economic conditions in the late of 1990s, not only new construction but re-construction of their plants was not conducted. Therefore greening in factories could not be improved. To promote factory greening, Yokkaichi city made a bylaw to facilitate construction and expansion of factories, a local rule and an exception related to deregulation of the Factory Location Act from the late of 1990s to the early 2000s. This paper grasps a concept of these measures of factory greening to coordinate factories and surrounding environments, analyzes effects and problems of them.

An international design workshop was held in Chungju-city in August 2011. The main features of the intensive workshop are that more than half of the participants is undergraduate students and that members of a team have various differences in their countries, age, and specialties.
This paper aims to examine students’ achievements in this workshop. The students were unfamiliar with workshop activities, had little technical knowledge, and were weak in communication. However, the students could finally communicate each other if they made the best use of their present knowledge and communication skill and make a decision as a group.

The questionnaire about an living situation and living consciousness was carried out to the person moving in the elderly-people welfare facilities in Beijing. The difference in the consciousness for moving in by a person’s body conditions is arranged. Moreover, by totaling according to geographic division, the difference in the consciousness for moving in by a location place is analyzed. From these results, the reason for moving in of elderly-people welfare facilities is arranged, and also the subject of the location situation of the institution seen from the consciousness for moving in is considered.

This study is intended as an investigation on how to implement the urban planning systems to lead and preserve the landscape. This article is focused on from the perspective of specialists on sites. This paper begins with the elucidation of legislations and regulations to lead and preserve the landscape. We educe the significant alternations from historical transition. And then, this investigation makes clear how to carry out these urban planning systems by the specialists on sites. After that, this article takes up the permission to build. The right of preemption is mentioned in the following section providing the concrete example.

This paper aims at explaining the relations between management form and use sphere characteristics of day service facilities. The accumulation by profit-making corporation progresses in city area so the service level and pick-up efficiency are high. There are a few new entries of profit-making corporation, and service level, and pick-up efficiency is low in the middle and gorge region.

This study investigates and analyzes the true cause of industrial accidents of building maintenance workers in buildings after the completion, and examines how the physical factors of the building affect the workers’ operations and behaviors in the processes of the accidents. Our research aims at improving the efficiency of protective measures of safety management, by eliminating the possible hazardous elements of buildings, in the process of construction.

Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport were conducted “The Lead Model Project For Long-term Quality Housing” from 2008. This project, about the way in society continue to use high-quality housing to create a long, are intended to promote public awareness will contribute to the development of a technology widely presented to the public. Lead project will be the cost increase, such as building a new production system and the initial performance improvement. However, also has been adopted by small housing builders are said to generally weak financial base, not only a major housing supplier. The greater earthquake occurred in Tohoku area, northern Japan, March 11, 2011, called Tohoku earthquake (March 11, 2011). This induced not only big quake over eastern Japan, but also gigantic tsunami attacking on the Pacific coast of Tohoku area, where it was caused considerable damages. Over the disaster area, we start various activities for restoration houses. In this report, the authors indicate about the tendency on the organization of local housing groups for supplying wooden restoration houses, according to the result of statistical analysis we examined.

Most of suburban housing estates developed over 25 years ago, that is in Showa period, have changed by rebuilding and repairing, especially from the viewpoint of outer walls of those houses. And the scenery of the estates has been changed to some extent. In this paper, we have investigated three suburban estates in order to analyze and compare how outer walls of those changed through years and also what the present conditions are. We actually looked at the outer walls of all houses and did a questionnaire survey to the people living in those areas.

This paper reports the effectiveness of electrical demand management for many buildings utilizing real-time energy monitoring system which contributes to the demand response. Reduction method of peak electrical demand for one building is limited. However, reduction methods of electrical demand for few buildings have more ideas than the method for one building. Electrical peak demands of 26 buildings were reduced 38% in 2011, summer.

For appropriate maintenance program, it is necessary to know the regional differences of the climate condition that affect building deteriorations. This study classified the nation into 5 regional categories of the housing maintenance cost adapted to the climate conditions. Moreover, this study suggested 2 methods that of simple and detailed calculations of maintenance cost between 60 years, for comparing with current method as required for long-life quality housing. In the result, the methods enabled to show not only the standard maintenance cost but also the direction of maintenance program suitable for the housing location.

This paper aims at evaluating the Abe family residence. It is thought that the Abe family residence was built in the second half of the 18th century. The whole reception room decoration is still the original figure. The circumference of toilet is also left behind except the space of a back angle. It can be restored to a original appearance. A preservation state is very good. It is a typical middle-class samurai residence about Fukuoka Prefecture, and is very worthy.

This article organized and analyzed “34 sheets of data materials for Munafuda (Dedication board)” remained in Hachiman shrine in Higashi-yawata, Yonago-city Tottori prefecture. The ordinary configuration for Munafuda of Hachiman shrine has “Pointed end shape” for front edge and “Narrowed rear end shape” for body. The high commonality could be observed in the notation method of contents and we also found there was a stylized or defined form for Munafuda. Furthermore, we revealed that “Eight-Hachiman shrine” were established in Houki region and Izumo region in medieval times by “Data materials of Munafuda”.

This report surveys 46 historical records relevant to government buildings in the Archives of Hokkaido and reports those contents. The historical records are dated from 1880 to 1968 excluding the period between 1886 and 1899. They contain floor plans of district offices, branch offices, called Shicho, and town and village offices as well as the former town and village offices, Kocho-yakuba in the early Meiji era. There are also documents for the building application to the upper organizations by those local governments. The records don’t cover the districts all over and lack the overall information about buildings except floor plans.

The main hall of Saimyouji temple, originally built as a 5-kendo (hall with 5 bays in the ridge direction), was extended into a 7-kendo (hall with 7 bays in the ridge direction). The previous small roof truss is preserved in the roof space. This was thought to have been built when the main hall was a 5-kendo; however, further research has revealed that this was the first roof truss when the hall was expanded into a 7-kendo.

Tokyo Station Marunouchi Building, designed by architect Kingo TATSUNO, was built in 1914. The building was designated as Important Cultural Property by the Government in 2003. However, the Marunouchi Building is not only a cultural property, but is indeed a full-working building that continues to be used as Station, Hotel and Art Gallery daily. Key point in design is how to keep the Authenticity and the Integrity of the building under the modern intervention for practical use.

The present state of an existing building is the overriding parameter for establishing renovation guidelines. However, the plans or construction drawings required to assess the function and performance of a building are often missing. Other times, these documents are available, but are not updated with renovations or repair work. To address these discrepancies, we measured the mechanical room of a building using a 3D scanner, analyzing the effectiveness and usefulness of the information obtained.

This study investigates the possibility of acceleration of finite element method (FEM) using graphics processing unit (GPU). GPU is a cluster of processors specialized for image processing. In recent years, GPU’s computing power for simple calculation becomes higher than CPU’s. The use of GPU is quite common in finite difference analysis. Application of GPU to FEM, however, is considered difficult from the viewpoint of large amount of memory access. In this study, an attempt is made to introduce GPU computing to FEM in terms of frequency response analysis of two-dimensional wave propagation problem.

Several new versions of 3DCAD, developed based on the BIM concept (called BIMCAD), have reached the level of practical use. As the digital model is changed automatically at the same time that one of the drawings is changed using BIMCAD, we can take the latest version of the digital model. Architects create designs using BIMCAD and send the file using the digital model in addition to drawings in an asynchronous architectural design communication between distributed sites, ensuring a smooth and seamless process. However, it is not easy for everybody to use BIMCAD, and the use of the digital model in the asynchronous communication requires a navigation technique in 3D virtual space, instead of a technique for understanding what is represented. To improve the asynchronous accessibility to the digital model, we developed a web application for sharing and browsing the digital model.

2009 West Sumatra Earthquake caused serious damage to mountainous areas. Core Houses were provided for house rebuilding at Padan Pariaman by NGO. It seemed that this core house was inherited from the case of house rebuilding in 2006 Central Java Earthquake. Comparing these two cases, the core house system seems to enhance effectiveness in community rebuilding on the same location. This paper shows the spatial use development and expansion of the core house in various directions at Talam, Lima Koto Timur, Padang Pariaman and shows its usefulness, cost efficiency, appropriateness, impact at devastated area for local people.

Shonai Earthquake of 1894 was an inland earthquake with magnitude 7.0, and claimed 726 lives and 3858 house collapses in Yamagata prefecture. The authors have been continuing literature surveys on this earthquake and in the previous paper precise damage distributions in Sakata and Matsumine towns were discussed. In this paper, detailed damage distribution for the whole affected area in Shonai Plain is indicated using damage statics rearranged by subdivided sectional unit for each village. Damage distribution is also discussed in relation with subsurface ground conditions.
