Looking ahead to the coming “high death-rate society,” this study develops a theoretical formula of the demand for in-home end-of-life care. Using this formula, it estimates the demand for end-of-life care in Japan by prefecture in 2040. The data used are the population of Japan’s 47 prefectures from 2006 to 2012, the total number of deaths, breakdown of deaths in hospitals, homes, and other places, bed utilization rate, number of beds per 100,000 persons, average stay in hospitals (days), and number of discharged patients. These data were gathered from sources including the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare’s population surveys and hospital reports. Next, demand for end-of-life care was estimated based on four future scenario patterns. Furthermore, the shortage of in-home care support clinics and hospitals was calculated.

Architectural planning and operation of latest advanced schools for special needs education in Korea were studied. The schools were characterized by specialized programs for vocational education and had well equipped facilities for training. Differences from Japanese schools were found in class formation policy, allocation of classrooms, and strategies to respond to increase in the number of students. The schools were facing shortage of classrooms and had made conversions. They planned to control the number of student intake to avoid further shortages. This differed from Japanese schools that cope with the situation by having multiple classes share a classroom.

This study aims to evaluate architectural space quantitatively based on visual sequence. In this paper, we propose a computational analysis method of a visual field along a walking path by using a virtual reality display. To analyze a visual sequence in an existing architecture, we measured the changes of the indices that are the geometric characteristics of a visual field based on the isovist theory. In addition, a virtual reality display, which employs a wide range view angle and a head-tracking system, enabled us to measure the relation between the visual field and the head motion.

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the customers’ subconsciousness on AED locations (“layout image”) and to propose a method reflecting “layout image” to the layout-plan of AEDs in shopping malls.
The comparison of the “layout images” and the “present layouts”, the locations of AEDs and the functions in existing malls, made clear that the “layout images” of locations of the three functions; plaza, escalators, and toilets, are common. Installing AEDs where the “layout image” is higher is advisable. It is concluded the “layout image” of plaza guides customers to AED locations efficiently from the simulations.

This paper intends to reveal the construction of the thatch roofing of the rice straw using the underlay of the Japanese silver grass. I researched for the “Yunohana Hut” had been built for producing the bath additive at the Myoban hot spring in Beppu City. The hut’s roof had been needed to the performance for keeping warm and discharging humidity, so the farmers had been kept making the thatch roofing. The thatched roof was built up from layers of the 150mm-thick underlay of the Japanese silver grass and 150mm-thick roofing of the rice straw. The Japanese silver grass filled the role keeping the room warming, and the rice straw was used as the roof material for good runoff of water.

The purpose of this report is, through the case of Akaike Elementary School extension work, considering the effectiveness and the problems the user participation led by the orderer brings in the stage of planning and construction. This aims at developing the method practicable with small number of staff in order to avoid declining the user participation for fear of increasing the orderer’s workload.

This paper describes and evaluates an action research project in a Japanese provincial town. It consists of two phases: first, we realized a public exhibition of design proposals to contribute to urban regeneration. Second, we received a commission to implement some of the ideas proposed in the exhibition, specifically the conversion of a warehouse into a community center. This paper shows the whole process, from the fact-finding phase to the project implementation as a way of introduce action research in the field of architectural design.

The purpose of this report is to develop a method to analyze the relationship between the centers of cities and the commercial districts near the main stations. The classification using the proposed indexes revealed that the centers of the 66 local cities in Japan have been declining compared with the commercial districts near the stations. Multiple regression analysis showed, that the centers of the cities are likely to decline, if the populations are small, the distances to the main stations are large, the numbers of railway passengers are large, and the prefectural and city halls are far from the centers.

This study clarifies the characteristic of land readjustment by central area revitalization project in reconstructed cities from war damaged. From the analysis for 13 districts in nine cities, we concluded as follows:
1) land readjustment by central area revitalization has been done in areas without layered with war damaged reconstruction project, 2) they were classified into four project types, types for improving new central core, types for improving public transit facilities, type for improving new station plaza, type for extending the existing urban infrastructure, 3) planning technique of land readjustment by central area revitalization is progressive in the case of station plaza redevelopment.

The aim of this paper is to clarify the arrangement of elements on vacant lots in temporary use in the center of local city of Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture. Firstly, the placement and elements such as furniture and tents are examined. Secondly, the composition of vacant lots and their utilization are analyzed. Finally, by integrating them, the characteristics of the arrangement of elements in the temporary use of vacant lots are clarified.

The aim of this paper is to clarify the number and distribution of silk industrial heritage and to understand the design character of silk fabric factories in Johana. Major results are as follows: 1) In the past, there were various building use which were related with silk industrial through the whole area of Johana district. 2) Recently, 20 silk fabric factories remains in Johana. We found 3 types of facade design which are extracted from these factories. 3) Facade design of silk fabric factories is different according to the periods when it was built.

In this study, I perform a cost-benefit analysis of the roadside tree project in the planning stage, by using the method of CVM. In CVM survey of trees project model in the Toranomon Street, I used two types of survey. (One shows the results of the thermal environment simulation, one does not) There was no difference between the result of the survey. In this study, the life-cycle costs of maintaining office building elevators over a 26-28 year period was empirically examined and analyzed. The life-cycle costs of the two elevator maintenance methods – the full maintenance (FM) method and the parts, oil, and grease (POG) method – were compared. From the point of view of building owners, this study is one indicator that helps to reduce life-cycle costs and extend building longevity.

We investigated the introduction of saw mill, kiln-dry machine, and finish-machining machine, to target all the lumber companies in the Kyoto prefecture. We found out that 94 saw mills, 32 kiln-dry machines, and 17 finish-machining machines exist in Kyoto prefecture. In addition, the lumber machine utilization rate was low in populous areas such as Kyoto City. In terms of drying of cedar plank, it was estimated that a cedar plank of volume 10,368 m3 can be dried in one year by 32 kiln-dry machines.

However, that is difficult by previous technologies because there are many change, and often the indoor in construction site. So this time, we developed a indoor location estimation system by iBeacon that can be used recently. This system was developed with emphasis on cost and ease of preparation for easily using in construction site. In addition, we applied that system to an actual project.

It is necessary to reveal the formation of colonial cities, since the base of most of these cities were structured by suzerains. Especially, the construction and the city plannings of hill stations were given high priority. This study focuses on Dalat, which is one of the hill stations where most efforts were spent.
The thesis claims that through the urban plannings and the implementations, the base of Dalat is structured after 1930, though several urban planners planned many urban plannings. Because it, Dalat is composed by several area which has each different function.

The purpose of the study is to reveal the full picture of the relocation and reconstruction of the Former Imperial Hotel (1923-1968) designed by Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) and to investigate the “preservation of the architectural style” proposed by Yoshiro Taniguchi (1904-1979), the first director of the Museum Meiji-Mura. This paper considers the documentary materials concerning the pre-dismantling survey conducted by Shindo Akashi laboratory of Waseda University and the “preservation of the architectural style” as seen in the dismantling and reconstruction materials from the relocation of the Former Imperial Hotel’s entrance lobby.

This study aims to trace the remodeling history of the Inokuma house, cultural property designated by Kagawa Prefecture. The Inokuma house has been considered a crucial remains that was built in 1664 and maintain the plan and design at the times. We searched for the remodeling evidences and historical papers indicating the remodeling history. The site plan that was drawn in the Meiwa Period (1764-1771) made it possible to restore the house to its original plan at the time, and 2 old drawings about the massive remodeling in the Meiji Period (1868-1912) were found.

In this study, by using a simplified pedestrian agent model with eight behavior rules, we analyzed the phase transition of the counter flows and clarified the relationships between the probability of the diagonal stepping with the evasion rules and the density level. As a result, we classified six phases of the pedestrian flows: (1)Static Layered Flow; (2)Stable Layered Flow; (3)Emergence and Collapse of Layered Flow; (4)Chaotic Flow; (5)Incomplete Clogging; and (6)Clogging. We also confirmed the phase transitions and showed that the small deflection of the diagonal stepping directions affects these phases.

Emergency medical operations have been established as an essential service in protecting people’s lives. This paper aims to describe a life environment model by which lives may continue to be protected. In the study reported here, based on the two potential hospital ship bases, two simulations were conducted and the corresponding effective spheres of the hospital ship in Tokyo Bay were visualized. By superimposing the actual sphere of the air ambulance and emergency vehicles, the characteristics required of the suggested regional cooperation among the emergency services could be analyzed for further discussion.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the refugees’ housing transition process and issues. The following results were obtained. (1) When the supply of the temporary housing, it is necessary to take steps to prevent the household separation. (2) Families with children have tended to change places many times for children. (3) Shelter is not only as a place of refuge. Had also functioned as an information-gathering place. (4) There is a need for assistance for the relief of stress because of the drastic change in their living environment and preparing for the future of aging too.

The 1914 Akita Senboku earthquake was one of the most damaging inland events in Akita prefecture and the authors have been continued literature surveys on this earthquake. This time, archived local governmental documents of former Osawago village were newly found. This village was located in the most damaged area. In this paper, these archived documents are rearranged in time series and listed in a table. Damage responses by local government are revealed on the various processes in damage inspections, rescue, emergency relief, distribution of disaster donations, recovery of lifelines and reconstruction of damaged facilities.

We investigated into the actual state of business and condition of use of convenience stores in the damaged areas after the Kumamoto Earthquake, 2016. Our results of analysis are reported here. Our questionnaire survey made clear that the convenience stores had begun to draw a large number of people immediately after the occurrence of the earthquake and kept them staying there for a while. Lodging in cars in the parking lots was also found parked cars being guessed to function as substitute places for shelters.

This study aims to clarify the influence of museums on the region and the relationship between museums and the local culture by investigating museums in Nagoya city. This study was conducted as following. First, by organizing facility information of museums in Nagoya city, the distribution was assessed. Next, a questionnaire was carried out to the relevant museums to assess their museum activities and collaboration within the activities. The results are listed below: 1.Today, museums’ hands-on educational activities are increasing, which responds to the local needs. 2.There are many repeaters, but few volunteers. It can be conjectured that there are potential volunteers in the repeaters. 3.To meet the local (needs of the community), museums constructed a collaboration system with other museums, companies, schools and organizations.
