The closed-collar schoolboy uniform has been much in favour traditionally for a century to be worn by boys in Japan attending junior and senior high schools. There have been pros and cons about the use of this uniform : some say that the uniform is clean, noble and student-like, while others criticize it as unrefined, non-hygienic and tight to wear. Thereupon, the authors conducted experiments on the wear of a closed-collar uniform, and its comfortableness has been examined. The results are shown below : 1st Experiment : The defect of the wear of the closed-collar uniform was studied from the standpoint of its agreeability to the high temperature in May and September when students' clothing is to be changed. It was found that the temperature on the skin and within the clothing became markedly high. 2nd Experiment : The pressure over the neck by the wear of the closed-collar uniform was determined, and its influence on the function of the wearer was studied by letting him perform various actions. It was found that the wear of a tight-collar produced high pressure, and that the wear of a sack-coat style was by far more agreeable.
