    The present report analyzes and examines the promotional factors of learning based on the processes of learning nutrition concepts and acquiring behavior to select a well-balanced diet, and on the relationship between the developed ages of the students and the consciousness of their parents. The results are as shown below : 1) The causal factors for learning nutrition concepts and how to arrange a well-balanced diet include the selection of teaching materials based on the assessment of both characters and the living conditions of the children with mild mental retardation and the creation of leaning scenes that maintain their interests. 2) It was revealed that the characters of the students and the food consciousness and behaviors of their parents are involved in this acquirement process. 3) Three challenges were presented for the newly developed general case instruction-based nutrition education model for children with mild mental retardation : they are the examination of the subject range that the teaching model may be applied to, the necessity of ties between school and home, and the development of teaching capability on the part of the teachers.

    We investigated the particulars of one hundred and forty-six high school students' experiences through childcare learning activities in high school home economics. The descriptions of their impression were classified into eight categories and twenty-eight sub categories. The analyses were revealed as follows : The students simultaneously understood about the characteristic features of young children and early childhood care, experienced their emotions, self-searching; the characteristic features of young children were classified "personality and mentality", "attitude and behavior", "body", "language", "human relationship", "interaction to environment", and "cognition"; almost all of the students felt positive emotions; the students perceived that childcare is hard and meaningful through interaction between them and young children. On the basis of these finding, we suggested teaching contents and matters in childcare as follows : the teachers should incorporate the view of development and individual variation of young children to understand their characteristics; the variations and individualities that the students have experienced are related to their universal knowledge; the teachers should make the students understand that childcare is a professional job; and the teachers should value and enrich student's self-searching.

    The purpose of this study was to analyze the subject of "knowing oneself-from the standpoint of personal awareness-" in home economics textbooks published in the United States of America (U.S.A.), and to get suggestions for Japanese home economics education. The following items were analyzed in seven textbooks : tables of contents, keywords, indices, learning objectives, substances of the description and exercises. The results were as follows : 1. "Knowing myself" was placed at the beginning in six of the seven textbooks, the amount of description out of the total pages is 3.0%(18pages)∿23.0%(159pages). 2. The ten words that appeared most frequently are as follows : heredity, personality, environment, self-concept, self-esteem, development, needs, values, roles and family. 3. The learning objectives stressed the importance of expressing one's own opinions. 4. Exercises about personality appeared most frequently.

    The purpose of this study was to analyze the subject of "knowing oneself" in the home economics textbooks published in the United States of America (U.S.A.), and to get suggestions for Japanese home economics education. Contents in four textbooks were analyzed from the following view points : how is the relationship between an individual and one's family or other people described? The results were as follows : 1. Other people as well as family have influence on the development of socialization, self-concept and so on of individuals. 2. Friends are important and are a potent influence on individuals. As it is a developmental task for adolescents to have good relationships with friends and adolescent students are interested in their friends, a learning program with is "friends" as a subject should be planned. 3. It is very important for individuals to have relationships with other people in the study of "knowing oneself" and it has a positive influence on understanding oneself, self-acceptance and self-esteem, values and attitude, aspect of one's intelligence and sociality. 4. Talking, listening and helping other people are good communication skills and expressing and manifesting oneself through them is important. 5. The textbook emphasized the importance of volunteer work and helping oneself. But it did not mention working toward society and analyzing social structure critically. 6. The home economics curriculum which groups new networks beyond the family should be incorporate in both the U.S.A. and Japan from now.
