The melting treatment of waste is the today's desired technology which can achieve the maximum volume and weight reductions, resulting in the longer life of the final disposal site.
Melting processing of bulky wastes with the combustible contents of 0%, 20%, 30% and 40% is carried out by employing the full scale Melting Furnace with the inner cylinder diameter of 3.5m. The Melting Furnace is a double cylindrical type which applies a film-melting process. Results of this study indicate:
1) The treatment capacity becomes 2.5 to 4 times as the temperature of the primary combustion chamber increases from 1250°C to 1350°C.
2) The self-melting condition can be achieved when the lower heating value of the waste is more than 1750kcal/kg.
3) The NO
x concentration of flue gas from the furnace is less than l00ppm at 12% O
2.
4) The volume of slag is 7 % comparing with bulky waste with 30% combustibles.
5) No leaching of heavy metals from slag is detected.
