Zinc (II) and diethyldithiocarbamate (DDTC) was added to a solution containing cadmium (II) . Cadmium was coprecipitated with Zn (II) -DDTC at pH 5.
The precipitate was collected onto a membrane filter (PTFE, 0.5μm) and then dissolved with 25ml of ethyl acetate. The solution thus obtained was subjected to graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS) . The detction limit for cadmium was 3 ng and the limit of determination was 10 ng. The sensitivity for 1 % absorption was 3 ng.
This method was not influenced by sample volume of 100 to 1000ml, and was satisfactorily applied to determine cadmium in natural waters.
