A rapid simple method for the simultaneous determination of three kinds of lower chlorinated hydrocarbons (1, 1, 1-trichloroethane (TCA), trichloroethylene (TCE) and tetrachloroethylene (PCE) ) in waste water was studied by means of newly devised analyser consisting of separator and gas detector tube.
In this method, 1000ml of water containing TCA, TCE and PCE is poured into a 1000ml mess flask and 1 ml of xylene is added in it, After stirring, 500 μl of the equilibrated xylene is taken out to inject into the separator having gas chromatographic column built in. Subsequently, each gas detector tube is connected to the outlet of separator at the each retention time of TCA, TCE and PCE. Concentration of TCA, TCE and PCE in water is determined by using calibration curves for the reading value of gas detector tube vs concentration of TCA, TCE and PCE in water. Consequently the limit of detection of TCA, TCE and PCE in waste water is 0.5, 0.25, and 0.1 ppm respectively.
