The characteristics of a raw kitchen refuse odor were evaluated, and removal of the odor with the activated carbon fiber (ACF) was investigated experimentally.
Results.
1) A relationship between perceived odor intensity (I: at 6-step scale) and dilution ratio required to dilute to the threshold of the raw kitchen refuse odor (D) is represented by the following equation.

3) Linear relationships are not established between odor concentrations and concentrations of total hydrocarbons, values indicated by an“odor sensor”, and concentrations of amines. But the linear ralationships are applicable approximately to the range of odor concentration more than 10

4) ACF has little removal effect for odors of amines, but for other odorous components, ACF has the excellent removal effect and the high durability of the effect.
5) The ACF filter, when combined with a suitable means for the removal of amine odorants, will probably permit the development of more effective systems for the removal of raw kitchen refuse odors.
