The method of design and operation of the packed tower biological deodorization plants is discussed. The limiting factor definition model is proposed as the model for the removal of gaseous odor components. This model, which is derived from the removal mechanism of odorants in the packed tower, is supposed to enable the plant design reasonably. Especially, the relationship between gas flow loads and spraying conditions can be expressed clearly. The constants of the removal model used in the design, and the operation conditions, are developped from previous findings and surveys. An example of their usage is also showed. Components and load fluctuations of odor gases could be estimated by the developped design procedure. In the treatment of mixed odor gases, one of the two design procedures should be selected. In one of the design procedures, a single odorant is considered major from the view point of removal, while in the other procedure two or more odorants are considered major and are given due consideration.
