We set up electric garbage processors at 17 homes, and investigated the amount and the kind of garbage generated at each home, and the situation of the use of an electric garbage processor at each home. As a result, it was shown that the amount of garbage was different among homes each day, and also even in the same home, and the type of garbage mainly consisted of vegetable waste, tea leaves residue and eggshell.
We then analyzed the seasonal variation of the composition of garbage.
As a result, the amount of garbage in winter, was related to days on which the remains of a meal were put in the electric garbage processor, and in summer it was related to days of fruit waste, which has a high moisture content (for example watermelon and melon etc.) .
We also investigated the relation of the garbage degradation rate in an electric garbage processor with pH, moisture content, and EC (Electric Conductivity) . As a result, it was shown that the lower pH, the lower moisture content, and the larger EC were clearly related with the lower garbage degradation.
We also investigated the degradation and the change of pH with degradation of main 10 kinds of garbage by small scale experiments.
Finally, some key factors of garbage degradation in an electric garbage processor were shown.
