The parallel array processor, or the supercomputer, will be a strong measure to handle many engineering, scientific and other problems in the near future.
PAX-128 is a computer of this category at the prototype stage with 128 microprocessors operating simultaneously which was designed and developed by the Institxite of Engineering Mechanics, University of Tsukuba.
A new type of unsteady flow analysis procedure was tested by using PAX-128 and other computers. PAX-128 consumed calculation time three times more, with slightly less accurate results, than those by the present large scale computer, M-200. The performance-cost ratio of PAX-128 is about 17 times better than that of M-200.

The recent advance in mechanical and electronic technologies has been of great benefit and influence to civil engineering constructions which, starting at the planning, proceed in the order of designing, construction and maintenance. As further advanced, these technologies must be effectively used incorporated with suitable construction management technology.
In this direction, this paper presents the results of an introduction of reliability technology into construction management on a pressurized slurry shield tunnel construction in city, where unfavorable soil properties and water percolation often become great disadvantageous, and where trouble induced in the excavation machinery with oil pressure, and electronic equipments become critical cause to the construction time schedule.
