A DTM (Digital Terrain Model) generation process was studied using JERS-1/OPS stereo data. JERS-1/OPS observes the Earth's surface with 8 bands. Band 4 is allocated with a special function that looks 15.3 degrees ahead of nadir. Stereoscopy is made possible with Band 3 viewing its nadir. A window size of 7×7 pixels was assumed to be suitable for automatic stereo vision. Comparison of the DTM image with the reference data Institute, revealed that the DTM accuracy from OPS data to have a standard of about 30m.

After construction of the seawall in 1972, the direct damage to people's life environment due to the tidal wave (high tide) have decreased at the Senbonmatsubara, Numazu City, Shizuoka prefecture, However, it is still remained as a serious problem that the coastal forests growing at the rear-side of the sea-wall structure or the foundation of appurtetant facilities have been suffered by strong window and by heavy salt deposited on their leaves. This study proposes the quantitative analysis method to evaluate the suffering state of growth of the coastal forests at the rear side of each sea-wall at the Senbonmatsubara, using satellite remote sensing data.

In this paper, we propose a extensive choice model for mixed-mode travel which includes railway line, station and its connected mode choice, in order to make possible us to evaluate intermodal transportation strategies combining public transportation with private one. Assuming the condition where is a good choice of railway lines, stations jointed, and its access and egress modes, we give attention to generating a choice set of inclusive railway routes and labeling each one efficiently, and we suppose a common structure between access and egress mode choice behavior. The result obtained by empirical study shows that the nested logit model of mixed-mode choice is statistically significant for any traveler with various kinds of trip purpose.

This paper models a system of cities which generates various spatial structures. The factors determinant to the structures, in particular, the transport network is to be examined. Since the model includes agglomeration economy and diseconomy, the system of equations is non-linear and therefore has to be solved in a not only analytical but also numerical way. The stability of spatial structure must be examined through the analysis.
As major findings in the analysis, it was verified that reduction of transport cost caused the structural change as dispersed → concentrated → dispersed again, and that there emerged an unstable structure under some combinations of parameter values.

This article presents a parking performance function which indicates a degree of parking congestion and evaluates the level of parking service. The function represents the relationship between parking waiting time and user density in a parking facility with constant capacity. The functional form of multi-server model which we propose is very simple and useful compared with the theoretical queueing model. But the function is certainly logical one, since it is formulated on the basis of the queueing theory and includes the probability of occurrence of waiting. The empirical study shows that the parking performance function is statistically significant. We propose that the function should be used with a parking choice model in the framework of stochastic user equilibrium for parking use.

The adjacent area of a railway station forms one of the city centers in Japan and produces the big transportation demand. This study of selected 10 stations shows the build up process and the usage of the building floor of the adjacent areas of railway stations. And the model computation shows the transportation demand to and from the adjacent areas which reaches about 2-3 times bigger demand than that of the railway passengers in local areas.

Rapid urban growth causes serious shortage of urban infrastructure such as road, park and sewerage in metropolitan areas. Though it might be called “the gap” between urban growth and infrastructure improvement, only few analysis have done on “the gap”, yet.
Firstly, this research aims to propose the method to grasp “the gap” by using three new indexes. The basic concept of these indexes is “Sufficiency of Infrastructure” measured by population. Secondly, by using these new indexes, structure of the gaps in Tokyo metropolitan area are clarified.

Traffic jams caused by repair work at night on the Expressway are seen even less traffic flow than that of the capacity. In order to illustrate this phenominon, vehicle movements by time at a merging zone, where usually one of lanes is regulated to pass, must be traced microscopically. This study is (1) to develop the system with high accuracy and efficiency for obtaining time spacial data of running vehicles at the merging zone, (2) to analyze a set of 3 different trajectories of the merging, the foregoing and the following vehicles simultaneously, and (3) to derive some probabilistic distributed characteristics from the time serial locational relations of the above set of vehicles.

In recent regional and urban planning, life activities of citizens have been considered to be more important than previously. Analyzing factors which make up regional attractiveness is useful for future planning. In this study, in order to analyze the relationship between regional attractiveness and its related factors, a structural model and neural network model which include the environmental factors as exogenous variables, are proposed and estimated by using regional preference data of migration. As a result, two models which can measure attractiveness are obtained and show important factors for life activity. The merits and possible applications of the models are described by comparing them to a popular linear attractiveness function model.
