This paper describes a method to determine the groups of road segments to be simultaneously constructed, the priority between them and the construction pattern considering the disutility under construction. The dynamic programming and the stochastic schimata exploiter are utilized for an optimization procedure. The mathematical modeling of the problem and its solution technique are emphsized. An example problem is included and illustrated for showing the applicability of these models. The results indicate that the proposed methods are useful for the multi-stage determination problem such as the road network planning.

The complexity of the computational process has deterred applications of the mutinomial probit model, compared to the wide use of the logit models. However, recent improvements of both the estimation algorithms using simulation methods and the covariance matrix simplification may be a motivation to apply probit models broadly in the transportation field because they are fundamentally more flexible than the logit models. We proposed another version of the multinomial probit model with a structured covariance matrix to represent any overlapped relation between route alternatives. In this paper, we examined the parameter estimatability and the stability of choice probabilities and user benefits by the simulation method.

In this paper, we intend to build a general equilibrium model which includes the endogenous city structure model with reference to intra-city location mechanism and the monopoly competition model with reference to inter-city trade mechanism, in order to analyze the effect of transportation cost reduction upon the structure of city systems.

This paper is based on the vast amount of papers published and documents related to Chinese railway bridges before 1949. The railway bridge design, in the period before and in the early beginning of the establishment of the railway bridge design standard, is introduced, also the history of the modification and development of the modem Chinese railway bridge design standard presented. Focus is given on the effect of foreign standard on the Chinese design standard, and comparisons are made between the Chinese railway design standard and Japanese one.

We have analyzed a mechanism for trip patterns generation by coastal cargo ships on the basis of OD survey, and it was made clear that ships are operated centering on the first trip from origin and their trip patterns are specified by chosing one among alternative OD pairs for return cargo transportation.
The purpose of this study is to develop a method of estimating trip patterns by coastal cargo ships considering the generation mechanism described above. In this method, Poisson Regression Analysis is employed instead of Multi Regression Analysis, considering the scarcity of marine traffic.

In this study, the existing inspection and adjustment method of rail joint gap is evaluated by comparing the degree of danger calculated from the existing method with that calculated from the computer simulation using the Monte Carlo method. In conclusion, it can be verified that the degree of danger calculated from the existing method is sufficiently reliable in the range of dangerous area where the risk of track buckling (sun kink) is very high. It can also be indicated theoretically that after the existing method was introduced to JNR track maintenance, probability of occurring of track buckling has been drastically reduced.

This paper summarizes theory on departure time choices for highway traffic in order to understand the basic theory for demand control measures to alleviate traffic congestion. First, the single bottleneck analyses since late 1960s are reviewed focusing on commute trips with clear time constraints to explain the temporal equilibrium condition and properties of existence and uniqueness of the solution. Then, the extension such as to the multi-bottleneck analysis, to incorporation of non-identical travelers, and to inclusion of the random utility theory are briefly introduced.

More than ten thousands inhabitants were obligated to stay places of refuse for a long time without their ordinary works during volcanic eruption of Mt. Fugen in Unzen. 1455 temporary dwellings were built to give relief to the suffers. The disaster relief law was stretched to cope with the size of family in this area. Living environment of the dwelling was improved and disaster mental health was checked to support evacuees living in the temporary dwelling for a long time. In the present paper, management on living environment of temporary dwellings is studied by reports and questionnaire survey and compared with the case of earthquake disasters.

About 35, 000 temporary dwellings were supplied in Kobe City after Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake and improvement of living environment of temporary dwellings was made by Kobe City. However, refuse life was too long and many problems of temporary dwellings were indicated. In this paper, living environment of temporary dwellings are investigated by questionnaire and hearing. Living environment, disaster mental health and housing reconstruction plan are discussed and compared with the results obtained by volcanic disaster of Mt. Fugen in Unzen.
