The purposes of this study are to estimate the number of prowl trips generated by the queuing theory and to compare the results with the number of passage trips. As a result, it was seen that prowl trips result in excessive traffic loads at intersections, and that legal restrictions and unofficial instructions regarding on-street parking contribute to improved traffic capacity by reducing the number or prowl trips generated. This study also indicates that measures for the efficient utilization of streets througt reduced parking time is effective fof dealing with on-street parking.

As parking problems are directly caused by the existence of illegal on-street parked vehicles, effective and sustainable parking strategies should have a way, which has to be recognized by the most of street users, to change such illegal behavior of on-street parkers. Therefore, an analysis of parking behavior plays an important role in a parking management system. This study develops a model on parking location choice behavior, which composes a simulation model to evaluate a parking management system, together with a parking information and a parking performance sub-systems. Based on the model, this study discusses a desirable parking management system which are effective to manage all parked vehicles included on-street parking.

Recently there are traffic snarls on most streets in large cities and these steets can't work well. To improve these conditions and make streets more functional and comfortable, it's essential to use existing streets effectively. This paper proposes a method of re-allocation of road spaces and examine the traffic circulation with the method. This study consists of four parts: i) to classify streets into groups according to their function; ii) to examine the necessity of re-allocation for each group; iii) to clarify user's awareness, iv) to propose more desirable allocation so that streets can work well as a network.

The allowable displacement for bridges and viaducts of MAGLEV was obtained by a numerical analysis model of a MAGLEV train consisting of five articulated vehicles. The dynamic responses of the MAGLEV vehicles running through displaced blocks of structures were analyzed, and the results were assessed from the viewpoints of riding comfort and running safety. Allowable deflection of girders and allowable bent-angle between structures of MAGLEV turned out severer than those of Shinkansen.

A traffic accident is a stochastic event and observed accident rates contains random errors that deteriorate the explanatory power and rthe eliability of the regression analysis. Random errors have to be appropriately controlled. When a data set of accident records, traffic records and geometric design elements of a certain stretch of a road is given, there are two steps for regression analysis: first, division of the road into a number of segments; and second, application of regression analysis to the set of segments. The main interest of this paper is the first step. The paper discusses how to evaluate random errors contained in accident rates of segments and what influence the random errors have on the regression. A segmentation method is proposed and examined by numerical examples of Tokyo-Kobe Expressway.
