The electroencephalographic change was studied in a patient with idiopathic hypoparathyroidism. Various abnormal activities or discharges are well known to occur in the electroencephalogram (EEG) of this rare disease, often masquerading as epilepsy. Before treatment, the EEG showed continuous and rhythmical high voltage slow waves with occasionally interspersed spike activites. During the stage when the serum calcium level was still low, 3 to 4 weeks after the initiation of treatment, the abnormal findings in EEG obviously decreased or disappeared. This might show that the extracellular calcium in tissues is at first normalized, before the elevation of the serum calcium. During the early stage after the serum calcium reached the normal range, hyperventilation evoked slow waves remarkably. But, this phenomenon has receded in two months when the serum calcium was maintained in the normal range. At that time the EEG became "stable", showing low voltage fast waves mixed occasionally with low voltage slow waves and poor alpha waves. The time course study indicates that most of the abnormal findings in EEG of this disorder are reversible, suggesting functional disturbances of nerve cells caused by hypocalcemia.

Dialysis has become the major treatment of acute and chronic renal failure throughout the world. We also have been treating the patients of renal failure by peritoneal dialysis more than one year with remarkable success. So we described our methods of intermittent peritoneal dialysis for the encouragement and wider application to the treatment of renal failures.

There is no doubt that much help can be given by the timely use of sedatives or analgesics, and the prophylactic use of chemotherapeutic drugs after certain types of operation. On the other hand, in treating patients with cytopenia, it is always important to consider the possibility that the drugs or chemicals may have played an etiological role in its development. From this viewpoint, the effects of antibiotics therapy following abdominal hysterectomy on the leukocyte pictures of 145 patients were studied at the nine hospitals in Niigata Prefecture. The result showed that so far as usual dosage was administered, no marked differences of leukocyte pictures between the antibiotics theraphy group and the control were observed. Furthermore, the author's previous two case reports of fatal postoperative agranulocytosis are added.

Fifty-three cases of threatened abortion were studied and followed up to determine the value of immunoassay method of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) and a vaginal cytology in assessing the prognosis with regard to the outcome of pregnancy. The semi-quantitative estimation of HCG titers was found to be of great prognostic significance. Patients who had high titers more than 8 times dilution of urine showed good outcome and those who had low titers less than 4 times dilution aborted. The karyopyknotic index (PI) of vaginal cytology had also prognostic value in threatened abortion. Patients who showed higher PI than 20∿25% in vaginal cytology all aborted few days later. The combination of these two techniques will increase the reliability and accuracy in predicting outcome of pregnancy in threatened abortion.

Some problems concerning about the supervision for social workers belonging to the public health center are discussed. Through 10 case presentations by them, each of the cases is commented by psychiatrists. Among them 4 cases are discussed in detail in this paper ; Two cases of schizophrenia, one chronic alkoholism and one epilepsy. Main problems are illustrated through the case presentations : 1) What is psychotic? Is this man psychotic or not? What is diagnosis? 2) Social worker has tendency to see the patient only through the symptomatic manifestations, but not through his daily life. 3) Is psychotic improved? And what is the improvement itself in psychiatric field? 4) What kind of relationship in the idea and the behavior is there between the patient and his family? Throughout the discussion, the relationship between the patient and family is stressed psychodynamically. We believe through experiences of the supervision for social workers, that the activity such as the corporation with Public Health Center is important as much as personal mental health movement.

The author explains is this article what is "to anticipate" ; then, I show it is similar to philosophy as a confession which Professor Tanabe of Kyoto University wrote ; finally, I observe medicine as a confession. Besides the author shows that it is Zange-Hoon-Ko in Buddism that "I" who have anticpated makes the other anticipate.

This report deals with two autopsy cases of 16 year boy and 58 year male, succumbed to alveolar soft-part sarcoma, both originating in the sublingual region. On section, wide spread metastases were found in the lungs, lymph nodes, tonsils, cerebrum, heart, adrenal glands and left kidney. Histological diagnoses for biopsy specimens were oncocytoma (case 1) and carcinoma simplex (case 2) respectively, but correct diagnoses could be made only after the autopsies. Although characteristic pseudo alveolar pattern was epually prominent in the both, PAS positive crystalline materials were found only in the case 1, and malignancy of tumor cells was more increased in the case 2, exhibited the charactor of sarcoma.
