At present there are some problems in the management of the multi-vendor projects. They are mainly as follows: First, it requires a great deal of time to share the methods of production and management. It is also easy to have misunderstandings in communication because the production procedures and the document names differ. Further, there is a gap in the interface between products and between products and applications. Finally, the performance of products varies widely, so it is difficult to maintain consistent quality. This paper introduces the application example of the improvement process based on the integrated project management to the multi-vendor project.

It is difficult to identify risk events correctly. I focus on the following two points as the cause. 1) Difficulty of the common recognition whether to be a risk or not. 2) Risk identification process strongly depends on experience of individuals. This paper proposes the method of risk identification without being influenced by experience. Firstly, I clarify the risk as the object which should be managed in the project in the light of the standard risk model which Smith & Merritt advocates. Secondly, I propose the method of clarifying causal relationship of risks using breakdown structures, after organizing issues when identifying risks. As a result of refining risks in a real project case by using this method, the true risk events were identified and the effective action was planned.

There is a role called "Executive Sponsor" in the project management world. The "Executive Sponsor" is defined that who has an executive power and is responsible for a program, which has been composed of some projects. He/She helps project manager mainly by using his/her power to promote stakeholders to collaborate with project and to support project manager. But in some cases, the line between what project managers are expected to do and what executive sponsors are expected to do is unclear and sometimes confusing. In this paper, we tried to clarify what project managers want to have from executive sponsors and suggest the role model of an executive sponsor. We sought the role model that is valid and operative in the actual IT projects in Japan. In addition, we tried to clarify the characteristics of an IT vendor's position in the IT projects, regarding the role and responsibility of an executive sponsors.
