Dynamic effects associated with phase transitions represent a frontier area in condensed matter physics. For our pump-probe work at SACLA, we aim to explore the behavior of a model system, strontium titanate, which shows an antiferroelectric transition. The physics of interest include photon-electron-lattice coupling, coherent
N-phonon excitations, lattice oscillations, transient soft mode dynamics, dephasing, and energy relaxation and dissipation.
