This study is focused on “Day-home” community-care project by neighborhood associations in Fukui city. The purpose of “Day-home” is to prevent nursing care and make companion in region for elderly people. This paper aims to clarify the actual situation of this project, which means the development process, execution and use situation in each district, and its evaluation by staffs. The results are as follows: 1) The participation rate is related to the system of the project. 2) Its rate is low in the urban area, and it is high in suburbs. 3) Staffs evaluate the effect of the project high.

Japan has been reached the real aged society with fewer children, and the number of school students is decreasing. As the society grows mature, the consolidation and the integration of the public schools are promoted, and the number of the closed school facilities is increasing. The authors investigated the planning process of reusing and utilizing closed school facilities, and the actual conditions of the facilities in the 23 wards in Tokyo. In this paper, the planning processes are classified and the effects of the different planning processes are analyzed. It was found from the result of the analysis that the planning processes had a variety of effects on reusing and utilizing closed school facilities.

This paper aims to argue the issues on consensus building in design process of the private hospital by focusing on ISO9001: Quality management systems-Requirement. The following were clarified by analyzing concrete communication of design process in detail; A kind of gap between “requirements specified by the customer” and “requirements not stated by the customer but necessary for specified or intended use where known” makes oversight some important requirements because both the medical staff and the architect as specialists have excessive assumption each other. To improve design process as collaborative practice, it is necessary to disclose activities on “Quality management systems” and enhance accountability to the client.

In recent years, the integrated compulsory education school that aims at a unified primary and secondary school education system is becoming more popular. However, there is very little architectural knowledge or models for such schools. It seems that the planning and design process is in the undeveloped situation. This report presents a study on planning and design process of the integrated compulsory education school which is designed by the architect and the researcher cooperated with the education board of Shinagawa city, and a document that contributes to development of the integrated compulsory education school planning.

It is considered necessary to hold the spatial visions in community design in common for civic organization in order to carry out community development. The purpose of this paper is to clarify the characters and estimation of the spatial visions. We collected and analyzed 337 spatial visions in 36 districts and we carried out the questionnaires about the estimation of the spatial visions. The results are as follows: 1) The spatial visions are able to classified according to goal, contents, scale, expression into 5 groups. 2) People in the district estimate the spatial visions that show the nature of place.

This paper clarifies merits and demerits of application of article 34-11 of city planning law from a case study of Takasaki City, which has high response from implementation of article 34-11 since 2004.
As results of performed municipal byelaw by article 34-11,
1) numbers of developments have increased by 4 times,
2) developments increase made it clear that assessment before
implementation was inexact and inappropriate,
3) developers found loopholes about access road regulation and divided developing sites into complex forms so as to patch up disguised road,
and
4) because there is no regulation about road which approaches to developing land directly, developments increase spurred to sprawl.

This study explores the issues of brownfield regeneration in marginal areas, defined as smaller, long-term derelict sites with contamination or as an isolated location where the industrial infrastructure has largely changed. We focused on Osaka, Japan, which has many brownfields in marginal areas. Former representative marginal areas are chosen in the East Osaka District to examine the current condition of brownfield sites. Results are as follows; For small and middle-sized manufacturing facilities, where soil contamination has been found, sites remain untreated following the closure of the facility. Almost all sites not investigated for soil contamination are not redeveloped.

In Japan, changes in the industrial structure have caused a large number of factories to shut down. Especially in rural areas, the local industries have declined, and many factory sites became unused. This paper draws upon research on textile mills in Kaizuka City to demonstrate how these sites are being used now. The paper argues that many sites have been changed into other usages. On the other hand, there is concern that, in the sites which have been redeveloped before 2003, the uneasiness of the health hazard by the soil contamination could continue to be left in the future.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate and analyze the course that had been held jointly local people, Cultural Center and University in Kameido, Koto-ku, Tokyo.
The important point of this course is to develop and spread the method of finding and sharing the local resources which is used in a long term in the town. “Kameido’s local resources Wordbook (Kame-tan)” was made in the course.
Finding are; (1) “Kame-tan” was made by the collaboration work of the
course participant; (2) Local people evaluated “Kame-tan” highly.
However, there was a problem that cognitive degree of the course is low.

In this research, a buried type snow-melting tank with low cost and maintenance was developed. By the questionnaire survey conducted in new town areas in Nagaoka and Akita, it is clarified that there is the necessity of an individual snow removal method for residential houses. The new snow-melting tank developed here consists of a reinforced concrete box, an electric snow-melting mat and draining pumps. The prototype model was installed to the residential house in Nagaoka City and its performance was examined. As a result, the snow supplied to this equipment was melt and drained certainly and the effectiveness was validated.

This research explains problems of the restoration project historic districts through a case of Shukunegi in Sado City. The actual condition of the project and it’s problems are clarified from the view point of authenticity. Transformations of exteriors between before and after restorations are analyzed. As a conclusion, uniform design has appeared, and lack of consideration of authenticity can be seen.

This paper reports the framework of the new view protection plan composed of the London Plan (2004) and London View Management Framework (2007) published by GLA. This new plan:
1) gives Mayor of London the important role to preserve and enhance the views from the broader perspective;
2) classifies views into four types and designates 26 important views;
3) establishes two management approaches, Geometric Definition and Qualitative View Assessment;
4) shows the location of designated views precisely by using coordinates and height;
5) relaxes height restriction due to narrowing width of viewing corridors;

The aim of this study is to clarify costs and benefits of the enclosed arcade of Nibangai, which is thought of as one of prosperous shopping arcades. Through interviews and analyzing documents, following facts are apparent. It is possible to say that economical and human costs of building, maintaining, and taking away an enclosed arcade represent a heavy burden on the local commercial association. On the other hand, cooperative relationships of within the association and the budget of the association are fostered by the existence of an enclosed arcade. And the enclosed arcade also influences aspect of the street.

In Korea, the government arranged 91 “Healthy Family Support Center” under the national policy to improve regional welfare, culture and human living environment. Out of those 91 centers, we focus on the Yeoju Center, operated by the Yeoju Institute of Technology, to investigate its solution between national common support program and local needs in region and how a university took part to it. From them, we analyze how the national policy affected in local region and how university’s operation caused it. By that, this report would contribute to solve both Japanese and Korean direction of region-university cooperation.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the feature of the street view in old Makitani Street. After several experiments, the following results are obtained.
First, we investigated this street, and we found a characteristic to an outer wall, a breast wall, and a door.
Next, we did townscaping using the characteristic of this street. Then, we carried out an experiment to evaluate an impression.
We clarified four elements which formed the impression of the streetscape. If the landscaping of the outside wall is done, it becomes united impressions, however, friendliness decreases.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the effects and the problems of the practice process of the townscape improvement in Honmachi Nakasendo district in Nakatsugawa city. The process is cooperated by residents, administration and specialists.
Following results are obtained; 1)Townscape improvement practice plan is established. 2)Residents come to recognize the landscape plan exactly and tend to try environment improvement. 3)Administration starts moving to the next stages. 4)And the leader of the residents seem to be cultivated.

This research examines the conditions of the sites of intermediary disposal facilities for construction byproducts. This investigation is based on our series of simulations that creates the most suitable form of intermediary disposal facilities in terms of the circulating process of construction byproducts from construction sites to intermediary disposal facilities and recycling facilities. We survey the relationship between the amount of construction byproducts and the distance to the intermediary disposal facilities.

I discovered “Kensuu-kumiawase-banzuke”, and named it.
With the document, I can compile the characteristic Banzuke as follows. This system is strong in a point to display amount between the pillar. This system was used at least from the early days to the Taisho era in the 19th century. We can confirm this system at center area of Nagaoka-city and Niigata Chuetu area.

The ground plan of Ozashiki, Butuma and Maezashiki covered with tamami of the former Hoshino’s main house was performed by inner legislation system, and the dimension value between the pillar conversed by inter columniation system was written down to the member. Span direction of Tyanoma taken the inter columniation system, on ridge direction, it performed by inner legislation system at entrance southward, but performed by inter columniation system at northward. The other, Genkan and Niwa northward were planed by inter columniation system. Namely, it was recognized that this building planed by inner legislation system together with inter columniation system.

This study aims to explain the actual condition of the background, process and drafting crafts workers concerning the transferring construction of Yamaguchi residence, in Isehara, Kanagawa prefecture, by the research in the newly discovered plans, the documents and the traces on the present building. It was moved 700meter distance for 38days in 1869 and built an extension of zashiki rooms suiting its social status as a local lord by a lot of crafts workers. Yamaguchi residence can be said a good example of not only the excellent design and high quality finish, but also a transferring construction in those days.

We analyzed the structural details of a farmhouse in the central Japanese snowbelt. The core structure was characterized by large pillars and beams, suggesting that the house is suited to resist heavy snowfalls. Almost all of the structural timbers (302 pieces) in the house consisted of four tree species: beech, oak, zelkova and cedar. Specifically, the main pillars and beams were mostly beech, the dominant species in the adjacent forests. This suggests that beech provided appropriately large timbers for the load-bearing structures of houses. Consequently, beech would have been useful in the construction of houses in heavy snowfall areas.

The purpose of this paper is to provide a design method for exhibition spaces that incorporates knowledge of spatial preferences. This knowledge is based on a previous paper where probabilistic models were used to represent the correlation between preference and spatial elements used in exhibition spaces. This paper serves to demonstrate these models as design knowledge. We have executed the probabilistic reasoning of Bayesian networks on the previous models, and deduced division- patterns for exhibition spaces and combinations of spatial elements with an expected high probability of preference. New schemes for exhibition spaces were then developed, based on these reductions.

The Kiragawa-cho in Muroto city, Kochi prefecture, which will be the most heavily damaged area in the next Nankai earthquake, is selected to consider how to reduce the earthquake damage of traditional wooden houses in the important district of groups of historic buildings. A questionnaire survey for local residents and evaluation of seismic capacity and durability for existing houses are performed. As results, the following conclusions are obtained. 1) Some houses have poor seismic performance. 2) It is possible to identify vulnerable houses by microtremor measurements. 3) Long term measures accordance with a whole life design of residents is necessary for houses in this districts.

The aim of this report is to recognize the significance of the public support necessary for maintenance and recovery of rural areas damaged by earthquakes, comparing the case of Western Tottori Earthquake with that of Mid Niigata Earthquake. The Japanese housing reconstruction support system was not adequate enough to satisfy the demands of the people in rural area damaged by the earthquakes. There were some limits to the application of the system such as income limit, age limit and the damage’s degree limit. The local government should clearly proclaim the housing reconstruction support according to the actual situation at early time.

In order to apply a new greening system with ultra-lightweight substrate to factory roofs, the experiment was conducted. This ultra-lightweight substrate consists of some kind of vine plants and auxiliary materials for inducing their vines or tendrils without soil. Vine plants were planted in a planting bed on the ground. They climbed on the auxiliary materials which were set on the wall, and reached to those of the roof. As a result, the ultra-lightweight factory rooftop greening system could almost cover the experimental area of the roof with vine plants for two years, and could improve indoor warm temperature environment. Furthermore, this system enables us to minimize the live load of the roof to 150N/m².
