This study aims to outline methods for construction of main farm roads, giving consideration to a broadened agricultural distribution. The link function of main farm roads consists of agricultural products transportation time and the reduction of these transportation costs. These effects are realized, for agricultural products transportation, by Link I leading from the cultivated fields to agricultural facilities and Link II leading from there to Node II (the destination market, terminal, container base) . For agriculutural products transportation, when the sharing rate of transportation facilities for a transported item is decided, the location of Node II to be accessed is selected and Link II is consequently decided. The sharing rate is decided by considering such factors as a place of shipment, destination, shippingseason, and market price, in addition to factors of transportation cost, time, service level, etc.
a. The selection of JR transportation benefits transportation cost rather than freshness.
b. The selection of air tranportation gives top priority to freshness and transportation time, and copes with high freight by transporting item which have high market price and thus can bear freight.
c. The selection of ferry transportation stands between JR and air transportation. It presently has an advantage over JR transportation in freshness and transportation time, and ferry transportation is an alternative for productsw hosemarket price has dropped, making air transport too expensive.
