This paper describes the turning properties of 5056 aluminum alloy. The cut surface roughness and cutting resistance were examined. The results obtained are as follows: The cutting surface roughness and the alternating current component of cutting resistance are strongly affected by the built-up edge. In a suitable feed and a proper cutting speed, the roughness is no effect the built-up edge and the roughness can be approximated by the theoretical equation (Rmax=F2/8R). This stable cutting range of roughness can be obtained experimentaly.

Till now, a pneumatic cylinder has been used an actuator of automatic machine. But, it's using method is almost based on the on-off control of the piston. Hence, the purpose of this reserch is to control the position of the piston in arbitrary point on the stroke by using a pneumatic servo valve. In this paper, we report on the experimental results of the positioniny accurncy, the static stiffness and the region of controllability under no-hunting (no-chatter).

To evaluate the V-t characteristics of uniform-field air spark gap, which are important in designing insulation of distribution lines against steep-front surge voltage, a method of calculating the formative time lag has been established for arrester series gaps and protective gaps in the case of short gaps ranging from 0.1 to 0.7 cm. Results of the calculation are compared with experimental ones with a close agreement between the two for the formative time lag ranging from 0.06 to 1 μs. In the case of 0.1cm gap length, however, there is some difference between the two. By discussing relations between p.d and Δ, where p, d and Δ are the barometric pressure, gap length and percentage overvoltage, another method is developed for calculating the formative time lag in the range of gap length of 0.1cm or less. In addition, with regard to longer gap ranges in the case of air insulation, the compatibility of the established method has been examined to confirm a close agreement of the calculated values with the experimental ones in the case of 6cm gap length.

Random numbers are necessary for the calculation according to the Monte Carlo method and simulation of phenomenon in probability. The sequeqce of pseudo-random numbers which generates random numbers in the computer by certain method of calculation, is often used in statistics. Middle-square method, multiplicative congruence method and mixed congruence method are already known as generating method of pseudo-random numbers. On this note we would like to present the middle-multication method and compare this method with the above three ones. We have described the result of testing statistical hypothesis on goodness of fit and independency for them. In addition, we have calculated the period of mixed congruence method.

A transversely excited N2 laser has been constructed. Many improvements have been made on this new laser. The space between electrodes, the position of the spark-gap on the condenser bank, the gas pressure of nitrogen and the length of the discharge tube been made variable. The maximum output power (330KW) and the energy efficiency (0.28%) were obtained at a repitition rate of 5 Hz when the electrodes of channel space 24 mm apart.

Some kinds of dimethyl octanols which had partly the same molecular stucture with tetrahydrolinalool were prepared from corresponding ketones and n-alkylmagnesium halides respectively, and their odours were investigated. Some of the dimethyloctanols which had OH group in the same position of the carbon skeleton seemed to give similar odours, but this positional effect of functional group was not observed in the acetates of these dimethyloctanols. 7-Methyl-2-octanone which is intermediate substance for preparing 2,7-dimethyl-2-octanol giving rose-like-odour was synthesized from isobutylaldehyde as starting material by means of Grignard reaction with vinylmagnesiumchloride, Kimel reaction and catalytic hydrogenation succesively. The technique on preparing Grignard reagent with vinyl chloride was investigated.

The purpose of this study was to determine the physiolosical intensity of Kisarazu Kosen Taiso consisted of 13 units of different movement in Kosen students. H. R during K. K. T and Radio Calisthnics were measured on three students aged from 18 to 20 yrs. H. R were recorded continuously all through the experiment by using telemetering method, and estimated values in K. K. T was investigated 120 students. The results obtained were as follows : The range of the mean H. R during K. K. T was from 96 beats/min. to 160 beats/min. while during R. C was from 96 beats/min to 138 beats/min. The mean H. R in K. K. T mainly jumping movements were 160±11.5 beats/min, and estimated values were smaller than that oftained from directly measured. While mainly upper extremities muscular movement were 128±10.8 beats/min, estimated value were larger than that obtained from directly measured. And mainly flexible movements were 118±7.7 beats/min.
