The straightness is the degree of difference from a straight line geometrically. It is one of the indexes to express machining precision. In mechanical engineering, the accuracy of processing side and the exactitude of the table and the surface plate, which are the bases of the processing side, decide the quality of products. This research is aimed to mechanically operate the straightness-measuring instrument and measure consecutive positions in a short period of time. This report explains the automatic movement mechanism of the carriage, which is the base of this project.

This paper shows the computer system for education at Department of Information and Computer Engineering. This system adopts the Linux OS and has been working since 2001. Moreover this system renewed at April 2007. Since NIS server and NFS server are working, all users can use the same software environment on any machine. And, it is easy to manage and to maintain the computer system for education.

This paper shows a style file of LATEX2_ε for Kisarazu National College of Technology bulletin whose rules are revised in July 2007. I wrote about the style file for the bulletin in January 2007. However the former style file has mistakes and obliges the author to write by manual operation partly. First, there are wrong definitions about the number of lines and columns a page. Second, The author must set manually the bold face font to the reference number of figure and table which appears in the first time. Third, The former style file can not output citation number with Zenkaku-characters automatically. In this time I solved above problems and refined the style file. I think my style file and template file should help edit the bulletin.

In recent years, it is recognized anew that the plant of the waterside is effective in the function of shore protection. And many researchers push forward investigation of bank of a river protection by vegetation. Bat in Small river, since management is easy, concrete shore protection remains mostly. And Small river is in the state where it is waterway-ized. If a stalk plant is given to the waterway-ized river, scouring and a deposition action will start it. Consequently, a current and deep water are gradually formed in stream bed and small water-route is made. When we give this method at a suitable interval, it is enabled to be rich in a scene and to also provide an aquatic-life living thing with rich nature. I made vegetation on the riverbank fish market, and this study conducted an investigation into a change of a flow, and we examined as one of the nature-friendly river improvement of construction.

Two theses are contained in this paper. The first chapter depends mainly upon the research of evaluation for the essays written by the students at Kisarazu National College of Technology from the point of using the checkboxes. This research is the first trial of using checkboxes for evaluating the written passages in Japan. This propose may be the new type of evaluation for the free composition and essay writing which have been considered to be difficult to perform the objective testing ways.

There is some hypothetical evidence to suggest that tests have washback effects on teaching and learning. The extensive use of test scores for various educational purposes has made the effect of washback a distinctive educational phenomena. This paper starts with the nature of language testing and its washback effect in classroom assessment, then further discusses some teaching and learning aspects influenced by it, the different stages of washback effect, and the types of washback effects observed. Preliminary research results here indicate that the different types and items of language tests language teachers employ are quite relevant to test scores, and may bring about changes in teaching and learning strategies.

The paper reports on the impact upon Fukui National College of Technology students of a two-week English course at Ballarat University in Australia. 17 students of Fukui National College of Technology had an opportunity to take part in overseas study of English in 2006. A follow-up survey of students, carried out in spring, 2007, indicated that they perceived an improvement in their language skills and were encouraged to study English. According to the findings, it is clear that the short-term overseas study of English has positively influenced the students' learning of English. This paper shows how the students were motivated and examines how autonomous learning of English can be developed in the classroom.

The purpose of this study was to examine whether maximum strength (1-repetition maximum, 1RM) of squat can be predicted by submaximal strength test (6RM), in university judo players. Thirty-three male subjects, after voluntary consent, were grouped as follows: a) light class, subjects belonged to the -60kg, -66kg and -73kg category (n=11); b) middle class, subjects belonged to the -81kg and -90kg category (n=11); c) heavy class, subjects belonged to the -100kg and +100kg category (n=11), respectively. All subjects participated in a 7-month training program. Prior to the training program, and every month during the training period, a maximal strength test was performed to determine 1RM value. The best record within the 1RM tests was defined as an individual result. The data of the persons who could not continue training and 1RM measurement because of injury was excluded, therefore the data analysis was carried out on the data of 18 subjects. The results were as follows: 1) 6RM and 1RM values increased in proportion to body weight: light class < middle class < heavy class. 2) 6RM/BW and 1RM/BW values decreased in proportion to body weight (r=-0.626, p<0.01, and r=-0.517, p<0.05, respectively): heavy class < middle class < light class. 3) 6RM significantly correlated with 1RM (r=0.947, p<0.001), and there was a similarly strong correlation between 6RM/BW and 1RM/BW (r=0.862, p<0.001). 4) We developed predictive equation for maximal strength of squat, which was based on the regression formula calculated from the relationship between 6RM and 1RM. The formula is as follows: 1RM=1.2408×6RM (kg) -6.7028. In addition, from the relationship between 6RM/BW and 1RM/BW, the following formula was developed: 1RM =1.0494×6RM (kg)+0.1688×BW.

A derivation of the Nahm equations is reviewed. For 2-monopole the Nahm equations are equivalent to the Euler top equations in classical mechanics. A set of solutions to the Nahm equations is obtained from the known elliptic solutions to the Euler top equations through the addition theorem of the elliptic functions.

This work is the continued research of "Performance evaluation of ultraviolet light emitting diodes as an excitation source in fluorescence measurement of plant leaves, bulletin of KNCT, vol.40, pp.53-62 (2007)". We have made excitation surface light sources for plant pigment by using new ultraviolet light emitting diodes (NSPU510CS, NICHIA). The irradiance and the radiation distribution of surface light sources were simulated based on the data in UV-LED unit. Then, two prototypes were made as results of simulation. Experimental data and the simulated results were well consistent with each other. Fluorescence spectra of peanut leaves were measured excited by the prototype with an UV-pass filter. Normal fluorescence spectra that contained no radiation of UV-LEDs in visible region (400 nm-800 nm) were obtained. However, the fluorescence spectra had changed depending on the irradiance of surface light sources especially in the region of under 50 Wm-2. This irradiance dependence can be significant obstruction to evaluate plant stress from the fluorescence spectral changing. Therefore, the development of the UV-LEDs light source with higher irradiance is necessary in future.

The authors have been developing KETpic as a bundle of macro packages for Computer Algebra Systems (CASs) to draw fine TEX-pictures. Recently we have developed a new method of the surface drawing using KETpic. We have obtained the equation to characterize the points on the ridgelines of surface. Also the technique of hidden line elimination has been used. Since the graphics drawn by using KETpic are monochrome and are composed of lines, they must be useful when they are used in the mass printed teaching materials.

There is a beautiful shoreline in south BOSO peninsula. However, there are few walk courses around the existing reservoirs. We investigated some walk courses for many visitors in south BOSO peninsula. In the road station HINANOSATO where many people gathered, fresh farm products are sold every day. We regard this road station as the starting point and show a walk course around the several reservoirs.
