A review is given of the current status of calibration methods of solar reference cells, with a particular emphasis on a spectroradiometric method developed in Japan. It is pointed out that the role of spectral irradiance standards used in the method is to determine spectral sensitivities of the cell as it is irradiated by an illuminant for testing.

This paper describes a practical method of determining Angstrom's turbidity parameters and the precipitable water by using spectroradiometric data of direct solar irradiance both on the earth and in outer space. Atmospheric water vapor measurements have been performed for 21 different days from May 1986 to January 1987 in Kisarazu. Obtained valus were compared with those computed from radiosonde measurements data at Tateno, and the both were in good agreement. Conclusions are as follows : (1) Turbidity parameters in the spectral region of 375-650 nm differ from those in the 710-1000 nm region. The differences widen with the increasing water vapor contents. (2) The precipitable water on a clear day can be obtained from a terrestrial water vapor density, provided it is limited to daytime of ten to fifteen o'clock. The average rate of conversion is 1.6 mm to 1x10-6g/立法センチメ-トル.

This study is made on two volleyball players chosen out of the members of the volleyball club in Kisarazu National College of Technology. The one is a skilled player and the other is not. Blocking forms are analyzed by comparing the motion of the arms of each player through a video camera. The results are as follows. 1) There is clear difference in blocking form between the skilled blocker and the unskilled one. 2) The analysis of the form of the skilled blocker shows that his arms are straightly stretched out over the net in the course of jumping. This is named here the "stretching out" type. 3) In the case of the unskilled blocker, his arms are swung downward at the highest point. This is named the "swinging downward" type. This study suggests that the coaches should pay more attention to the motion of the arms of blockers than they have, and the unskilled players should be coached with the "stretching out" type.

This report is concerned with mathematics practice, which was introduced a few years ago into mathematics courses of the third grade at Kisarazu National College of Technology in order to improve the basic and applicable abilities of mathematics of the students. The results of two tests and a questionary given to the students show the importance of this kid subject.

This paper describes that the side of calculation for power and precision are independent of each other. And, when we calculate a formula with one method, the result should be checked by some other methods because the result is accidentally far from the true value.

The laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) of a rice plant is evaluated as a means of remotely detecting a leaf color and estimating a plant growth. A leaf color of a rice plant growth changes according to a plant growth. The leaf color is influenced by a quantity of chlorophyll contained in the leaf. Fluorescence intensity of in-vivo chlorophyll is changed by an amount used manure. Until now measurements of the leaf color have been carried out in a rice field using a color scale. There are some differences in its observation owing to the observer's individual character. In the LIF system, the fluorescence spectra of in-vivo chlorophyll are excited with a nitrogen laser emitting at 337 nm. By detecting changes in fluorescence intensity at 684 nm and 739 nm concerned with photosynthesis, we estimate the rice plant growth.

Catalytic hydrogenation of 2-butyne-1, 4-diol (I) ,3-hexyne-2, 5-diol (II) and 2, 5-dimethy1-3-hexyne-2, 5-diol (III) was carried out as a mixed methanolic solution under ordinary pressure and temperature with Pd-CaCO3 Catalyst. II which has two hydroxyl groups of secondary was most easily hydrogenolized and gave 2-hexanol in a 26mol% yield. 1-Butanol in a 16% resulted from I which has primary hydroxyl groups. A corresponding monohydric alcohol did not result from III which has tertiary hydroxyl groups, but by the hydrogenation of only III 2, 5-dimethy1-2-hexanol was obtained in a 4% yield.

To design a reliable and cost-effective lightning-proof mechanism in a power system, various factors must be totally considered. One of the factors is the lightning intensity in the region where the power system is constructed. It is extremely important to know the lightning intensity. From the point of view, we have measured the frequency of lightning discharges in the kanto district in Japan using lightning flash counters to collect and analyze lightning discharges data. The result has contributed to make the frequency distribution map of the lightning discharges in Japan. However, there lies a lot of problem now to be resolved in the measurement. In this report, we focuses on the problems to find out the ways to solve them.
