The effect of 3,3',5'-triiodothyronine (rT
3) on angiotensin II (AII)-induced calcium mobilization and formation of inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP
3) in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) was studied in this paper. rT
3 at concentrations of 10 and 50,μM inhibited All (1μM)-induced increase in cytosolic calcium concentration ([Ca
2+]i) and IP
3 formation in VSMC dose-dependently.
These results indicate the possibility that rT
3 which is regarded as an inactive metabolite of thyroxine (T4) has inhibitory effects on vascular smooth muscle function.
